Topic: RE: Back at the motel 5 days post op
I've been wondering about you. I knew you had gone out of town so I figured I wait a few more days before getting worried.
I'm so glad you are doing well, bumps in the road and all.

Topic: Back at the motel 5 days post op
Hi Everyone,
I had the RNY on 06/07 (also a band removal, chole, and partial gastrectomy). The surgeries were uneventful, per the surgeon, everything went great.
S/P surg though, I had a rectal hemorrhage of unkown etiology. I was receiving Heparin SQ but my surgeon doesn't think it was the cause. And honestly, who knows. I lost 3 units, had a transfusion and the bleeding quit within 24 hrs of incept. This delayed my discharge considerably. I am finally back at the motel today.
I have seen clearly my great blessings through these events. My husband is a ministering angel who cared for me tenderly.
And God Bless nurses who care for their own with a personal passion & tenderness.
The nurses at Community Memorial @ Ventura CA couldn't have been more wonderful.
For those of you who wait, I wouldn't have changed my mind had I forseen the complications. I have no clue yet about wt loss. That will blessedly take care of itself at the moment. I finally got a protein shake today. It felt pretty good to have something other than a clear liquid on board.
I am using my husband's laptop to post. I won't be "home" until Monday. I will post again then.
I'm thinking of Sandra T. who was in line right behind me. Has anyone heard anything?

Topic: Leaving for my surgery
Hi everyone,
I'm about to leave for Ventura CA (8hrs away) for my surgery tomorrow. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm nervous. I am not. I can't wait to have this behind me. My bag is packed, my protein shakes and vitamins are in it. I have used the info from this board to avoid over-packing.
I can't thank everyone who messages this board enough. Your insight, your sharing all have been a beacon to me along this path. I wish I had discovered the board sooner.
Good luck & brightest of blessings upon those of you who have gone before and lit this path and those of you coming along behind me who still wait.

Angela,
You sound like you're doing really well. My MD tells me that I have to take B12 SL for the rest of my life, 1 x wk. He also says the 1600 of Calcium Citrate is essential along with a good daily vitamin and at least 60gm of Protein per day.
As for the 6wks on fluids, did I mention that my Doc is a military officer? LOL He had an early patient death from an anastomotic leak and it almost killed him. He tends to be very strict due to that experience. I respect him and I trust him. He places a JP drain too so that any hint of leak is very early detected. He told me about that patient death in our first meeting. His openess was very refreshing.
Your wt loss is phenomenal isn't it? I mean really, today is 6/5 and you're only 13d out and have lost 23#.
Bless you for sharing. Please keep posting. I will be out of commission for about a week because my surgery is in Ventura CA (8hrs from my home) and I won't have access to a computer during my hospital stay.
I will be anxious to hear anything you have to say.

Topic: RE: A OK!
Joanne,
Are you using a protein drink? I used IsoPure with my lap band and am going to use it again with the gastric bypass. It has 50gm protein/300 calories/ 25gm carbs. The chocolate drink is actually good. I figure that if I drink one every day that I should do ok on the protein levels and the fluids will be included. I'm hoping that I will be able to tolerate it. Apparently everyone responds differently. What are you using? What have you tried?
No pain? Tell me more... Did you have a lap procedure?
Your wt loss is just amazing for 19days you have lost 25#. WOW!
You're on the losing side and just galloping toward your goal..

Topic: A OK!
Hi all
I am now 19 days post op and doing great, I fear that I am not getting enough fluids or protein daily. Some days better than others. No pains, nor complications.
moving to pureed foods this week
I'll keep you all posted

Topic: RE: I am home!!!!
Mikey,
You sound like you're doing just great. My surgery is Tuesday. I am really looking forward to being on the other side of this event.
A 50# wt loss is just nothing short of a miracle. The mind-body disconnect works in both directions I guess. There are so many shameful feelings (strongly reinforced by anorexic models/actresses & ad campaigns) attendant on being fat. It's really the last openly discriminated against minority. I can see how the mind play works, "well I've lost 50# but I'm still overweight..." We just don't see ourselves as others see us. They see how far we have come, we see how far we have to go.
I hope you feel some sense of pride at your courage and determination in pursuing WLS. I know that it wasn't easy.
I understand about the clothes issue. It's hard to buy clothes that will only fit for a month. I am so looking forward to having that as a problem.
Are you hungry at all? I'm on full liquids until the surgery and today my husband was watching a show on the food network. I said "no, I don't want to watch a show about eating." I retired to my office. I don't want to be tempted. Do you still feel that gnawing temptation? Have you been able to stop yourself from trying bad things? I am afraid of myself. I know my weakness uniquely well. The surgery doesn't change our heads, just our stomachs.
So, tell me about anything you feel like sharing. I am of course intensely interested.
Thank you so much for responding Mikey.
Sandie
