WTG, Sandra!
I know how you feel. You are right, as a nurse the pre-diabetes results serve as an electrical jolt in your life. That was the deciding factor for me as well. I want to be well and healthy too. Good luck and may you rest on
's wing during your surgery. May you have caring and compassionate nurses at your bedside. You will be in my prayers for a fast and low pain recovery.
Hugs,
Pam

Topic: RNY on 06/07!
I am so relieved. I was afraid the insurance might be more of a struggle than it was. The timing was perfect. The same week I got my surgery date, I discovered that my blood sugar was 129. As a nurse, the pre-diabetes got my attention. It just seemed one more terrifying aspect of this powerless condition called obesity. Now, those worries are at rest. I am determined to make a new beginning. I'm not unrealistic about the aesthetics of WLS for a woman of my age (54). I am entirely focused on saving my life. RELIEF is spelled RNY-GBS!

One more step d...
Meg,
I'm as excited as you are. I can't wait to be on the losing side. I just imagine myself getting smaller instead of larger and I get a little teary. In a sign of pure optimism, this weekend I bought a size small peach/pink outfit. It was so feminine and sweet. I think that for me the obesity has been somewhat defeminizing. I'm putting the outfit up in the closet. I'm wearing a large now but believe that in 6mos I will be wearing a small. I'm 5'2" and 206#. I was originally 258# but had a lap band surg in Nov 2002, then the band broke and I had a repeat surgery in Sept 2003, since then I've had a couple of obstructions and the doctor had to remove the fluid from the band. So now, I am regaining wt. I literally wake up at night and think about myself getting bigger. However, the desperation is finally ending. My RNY is scheduled for 06/07. Thanks be.
Good luck on the losing side! May all your imaginings become memories of fulfilment. I'm beaming positive thoughts your way.

Hope your EGD went uneventfully! My Lap RNY was almost pleasant! (PCA MS & Toradol are MY friends!)
Most discomfort came from NG tube - suction on medium intermittent - I felt the pull on every internal suture!
Once I got it turned down to low intermittent I was much better. Once I got the NG tube out, I was tons better!
My doc & staff were amazed with my progress. I did what every nurse knows to do. TC&DB, feet on the floor the same day as surgery and walking the halls at least qshift.
It's Post-Op day #5 and I walked a mile (in bits and pieces), went to Tai Chi class (albiet most of my work was done sitting or at a very low level - I was moving and breathing!) and, I'm eating pureed foods very well! Got in 70 oz water and 92 grams of protien today!
So, you asked for an update - you probably got more than you wanted - but it was theraputic to write the details to you!
Peace,

Pam - congratulations!

You go girl!!!!
I hope you have a local support group you can meet with pre-op. OKC has three wonderful groups and they have been such a source of support and inspiration. I wish you the very best and CELEBRATE your success - you're on your way!

Topic: How to "FIX" your surgery date.
For those that haven't noticed a couple days ago eveyones surgery date become 1-02-1995 or something like that.
To fix it go to your profile page, then to the "I've got a date" section and then change back to your original date.
For those of us not scheduled yet, I put blanks in the month and day and 2005 in the year and that worked for me. No date shows up.
Have fun all.
