Hi, Janice.
Your surgery date is coming up fast. We will be staying in KC on 2/8 and heading on to Omaha on your surgery day. I'll be sending good thoughts your way for an easy recovery.

That is so giving.
If I have trouble I will let you know. My BMI is 39.4 so I might be getting in touch with you.
This is such a great thing that you are willing to do.
Thanks,
Nancy

Karen,
Are you drinking any protein drinks? Did you have laproscopic RNY? It sounds like you went back to work a little too early. Could your doctor maybe write you a light duty note for a couple more weeks? I just don't think you have had enough time to recover. Hope you get your energy back soon. Good luck. Janice

I just found this message board today. I did not notice it until a few minutes ago. I am a nurse at KC VA, my surgery date is 2/9 so it's almost here. Janice

I can't wait to hear how you did and how great you are doing when you get home. Hopefully you are in a room somewhere now getting good pain medication. Janice

That is so sweet of you, Sue! I know that some people have fought and fought their insurance companies and any help they can find would be wonderful.

Hey, all you nurses having trouble getting approved - I would be happy to help in any way. I work for a self-funded plan doing case management. Soooo... that means I know our plan inside and out. The bottom line is that I got our plan to approve my husband's WLS with a BMI of less than 40 and got the criteria changed. Then, last spring, I got my abdominoplasty approved, despite an exclusion for "panniculectomies and similiar surgeries after weight loss surgery". I really believe there is a way to get just about every plan to pay for WLS surgery. It just has to be found. Appeal, appeal, appeal!
You can go to my profile and send me an e-mail. I'll do whatever I can.
This surgery has made such a positive impact on my life that I want to help as many people as possible have the same opportunity.

Well, we will just have to be morbid together. My surgery is scheduled for 1/25/05 as well, and I have written letters to my family too. I think it is just a realistic thing to do because no one knows what can happen. I will say a prayer for you and all our other surgery "buddies" for tomorrow. Best wishes--Laurie

Welcome Melissa.............I've been lucky the RNY is covered by my insurance from work.........ya'll wouldn't want to move to Southwest Indiana would ya? LOL Good luck on your journey and check the insurance page, from what I have read just because there is an exclusion hasn't stopped some folks. This is a medical neccesity for some. I didn't think of all my little things adding up to being considered co-morbidities, getting OOB when putting on shoes with laces, low back pain, joint pain, snoring/apnea, ankle swelling, etc., and my favorite new problem starting up, incontinence......gotta love that one....
Good luck to both of you.
