Hi Sue,
I am an RN in and Adult Medical Day Care. Background in Same Day Surgery/Med-Surg/Cardiac Rehab. I am excited to see fellow nurses here. I, too have been in the war for many years. So many ups and downs, and now no downs will happen. I never really believed that it was true that the body would stop loosing after so many tries, but now I know it is true...I am on the 6 month physician supervised wt. loss gig, MAMSI required. Hope to submit to get approval for sometime in Oct.??? Lets keep supporting each other, I was one of those medical people that didn't believe in weight loss surgery, but now know it is my only choice!!! Hope you get your date...excited for you!!!

Mariah, I do have a question, were you able to change your meds to another form before your surgery date..I am on a med XL form and i am wondering if they change this in the hospital or if i should be looking into this now? Thanks

Mariah, Congrats on your wt loss...you must be so happy. I can't wait for my journey to begin.

Traci, I think you should ask your surgeon questions that interest you personally, examples would be how long surgery would take, how long will my stay be. Make sure you get all the dietary info. for post surgery, so you can stock up on foods, liquids and vitamins and fill pain med RX's before you go in for surg. Ask the nutritionist about % of proteins and vitamins and calciums. I have hear to take citracal plus vit D, comes in creamy bites. Best of luck to you.

Hello, I am a RN that works in Home Health. I meet with my MD this tues. Aug 2nd. for a consult and to sch. a surgery date..hopefully will be the middle or end of Aug. I have been battling wt. issues on and off since I was 20. Everytime I did lose wt. I always regained it -plus some extra. This time I want it off for life. I love reading others posts and journeys as they move thru this wls process. Take care.
Topic: Hello Everyone
I am getting ready for my surgery. I need a list of final questions that I should ask the surgeon and the nutritionist. My first appointment with the surgeon was a big blur! I was in and out of there so fast I had no idea what to say or even do. I just stood in the hallway outside the office and looked around....completely confused!! That is strange for me because I always have something to say!
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Also, say a little prayer for me also!
Thanks and Big Hug!!
Traci

Topic: Follow up on my surgery
Just wanted to update everyone. I had my first follow up and my drain was removed. Since then Ive been on no pain meds. Im now 2.5 weeks out. My highest was 394 the day after surgery with a BMI of 56.5. Today my wt was 345 and my bmi dropped below 50 ..it was 49.5. I was so excited.
I plan on going back to work on the 9th. I could go sooner but just wanted to take the time off and clean house. I now have energy that I havent had in years...so Im making up for lost time and my husband is helping so much. Feels great to be alive now.

I had my surgery yesterday. Im still in the hospital and watching big brother tonight. I got off of all my Iv pain meds last night. Ive had clear liquids this morning for breakfast and lunch. Then for dinner I had full liquids....mashed potatos and cream of mushroom soup one oz of each. Im not really hungry at all. I had some crystal light and my choc protien drink. Ive walked just over a mile today. 14 laps around the unit equals one mile.
Well thats about it... Im looking forward to going home tomorrow. Let me know if u have any questions about your first 2 days post op.

Hi Dee, I am an RN that just relocated to Kentucky from Maryland due to the military. My background is geriatrics and currently I am taking a few weeks off to get my daughter started in kindergarten here, and to mentally recoup from being a Director of Nursing for the past 2 1/2 years while my husband was in Korea.
I am down 94 pounds since September 2005 and I am feeling great. I would do everything the same if I had to. Glad to meet other RN's here. Have a great day!
