Topic: Surgery is Tuesday, 4/27
Okay guys, I am freaking out. It is sinking in that I will be intubated, paralyzed, ect, ect. for this surgery. Why oh why can I not get past that? I know, I know, I probably won't even remember, but worked in the unit and saw the people who could not get off the vent post op!!! (I worked Cardiothoracic ICU~eventually some did, Hey, I know this is a bizarre worry. I have asthma, and have this paranoia about it. I think I am having last minute nerves!!!! My son at the table said, Mom you may die because don't you always say nurses have the complications! Today, I fed my stomach telling it~last food the main part of you will see for the rest of my life! Any thoughts would be helpful as I go to the computer in between the 2 day bowel prep (lovely). Thanks!

Topic: RE: Getting Tired of the Awful Nurses Discussed on the Main Borad?
Hello Rusty! If I had a very good nurse taking care of me I would shout it from the highest roof top!!! Tell the entire world lol. Nurses don't hear enough positive strokes from patients or their supervisors. My best reinforcement of positive strokes for me is to see my patient comfortable, not in pain and understands about his/her condition and how to continue the self care at home. No matter how busy and crazy wild it is on my floor, I would never ever be one of those," abusive, forgetful and rude nurses." I tell any people who want to go into nursing you need to be ready to run your legs off, work hard, not have many "potty breaks" lol or lunch breaks, not have many weekends or holidays off, not have much of a family life or personal life, the salary is not as good as it should be for having a person's life in your hands and you should love your patients and be their advocate at great lengths. As for not trusting the hospital, I believe it is as good as the people who work there doing the over and above work expectations in times of a shortage of nurses and higher acuity levels of patients. God bless all the caring, compassionate, empathetic nurses in the world! PS I hope and pray I am fortunate enough to have that nurse taking care of me when I have my WLS.

My thoughts are that remember...you are a VALUABLE commodity in this market. Nurses are scarce. If you have to, get a job where the insurance covers you. This is your life and your future. I was so shocked that some people actually get jobs just because the insurance of the job covers the weight loss surgery. Then they quit and find another job after the surgery! I am all for going after your current insurance and making them pay~especially if you are happy in your position and there is a chance of making them pay. Just remember there are lots of jobs out there that do have benefits that cover the surgery. I will be praying for your success!

Will he disclose his M&M and infection reports? That's the only other thing I would ask about. Mexico has also had problems with oral antibiotics not being up to par. Some companies will cut the doseage strength to cut down costs i.e. Amoxil 500 only has 375mg in it. Good Luck! Pat

Tonia - Hi! I've been at this for 33 years and I really want a good nurse, too, but it won't be my daughter! She says she saw me go through so much with different jobs -- working my butt off and not getting the recognition I deserved monetarily -- she would NEVER go through that. So what is she doing??? She's the manager of an upscale restaurant!! I'd rather work with doctors!

Hi! I just found you guys, too! I'm a PNP in St. Louis. I'm waiting for my new insurance to kick in before I can apply for my RNY. It's Tricare and they approve all that is needed and I meet all of the requirements. I'm really excited now and need a sponsor. Anyone here up to the challenge? Pat

Topic: RE: Hey nurses! Sign the petition!
Signed it --- and went through an appeal process that was denied. I met most of the criteria as lined up by the physician community and the Sisters of Mercy denied it. My husband's work plan was changing and the plan he was going to forced me to look in to the Tricare plan the military provides for retirees. THANK GOD!! It's marvelous!! I'm eligible May 1 and should be approved very quickly. The straw that really breaks it is that I can't drop my work insurance until the year's end when you can make changes! Pat

I do not stop in often because it is so quiet but do periodically. Good to see a few others here.
