Odd Side effects From Rny

Hello I had my Rny on 2/13/06. Last time to the doc I had lost 52 Pounds. Loving the weight loss and not regreting the surgery but need to know if anyone else has had major headaches, foggy periods, forgetfulness and pulled muscles. My doc is aware of all of this and has actually sent me back to my primary doc to see if he can find out what is going on. Lab work is great. Protein is great. Everything is great from what I am told. I was taken off exercise for the pulled muscle and am in physical therapy. Funny thing I pulled my upper stomach muscles while under no restrictions mopping my kitchen floor. What a way to pull your muscles right. Any one who has any ideas or heard of this from their doctor's list of possible side effects, I would like to know or any suggestions or web sites. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I take my multi and iron and b complex every day. My only other last person to talk to is the anesthesisia (spelled wrong) Thank you Nicole

RNY on 11/15/05 with
Nicole; Have them check your B vitamin levels. That would cause the fogginess and forgetfulness. B deficiency has also been the cause of tingling in the extremeties. I don't know if a pulled muscle could be a side effect or not. The headaches could be that you're not getting enough water. I know if I don't get all my water in, I wake up with a headache the next morning. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 175 / 137

The same thing happened to my friend but he underwent a different stomach surgery. It turned out to be the anesthesia even though he had never had problems in the past. Make sure they check ALL of your blood levels. Take care of yourself! Cora Beth

My mother is an RN... she said anesthesia can stay in your body for up to 6 months (if I remember correctly... she talks alot I only 1/2 listen!). Could be you are still feeling the effects of all this? Not sure if the dr would reccomend or if you could even do... but check into some body detox/body cleanse type things. Hope this helps!

I am having RNY this Friday, May 19th. I have been on my doctor's liquid only pre-op diet for 8 days. I AM EXPERIENCING EVERYTHING YOU LISTED! The first two days the headaches were worse. But the forgetfulness is not getting any better. I think it's my body detoxing from all the crap I've eaten my whole life. At one support group meeting a nurse said that women store a lot of their hormones in their fat... so when we lose fat (especially rapidly), we have an abundance of hormones released into our system. I think this theory is probably most likely. I hate to think how ditzy I'm going to be post-op! I've lost 13 pounds in 8 days on the pre-op diet, so this is a logical excuse to me. You are smart to get all the health tests done... but if you can't find a good medical excuse for it, perhaps it's just all the changes you're going through? My mind is so preoccupied with this diet lately that there's no wonder I'm spacy and foggy! As for the pulled muscles... hm... I don't know! If there's no medical excuse (insufficiient potassium or thiamin), perhaps you're so spacy you aren't paying attention of how you're moving your new SKINNY body! Be sure to post back here as to what the verdict is. GOOD LUCK!
