Having trouble dieting while waiting for surgery
I am currently doing the 3mo. supervised diet with my weight loss surgeon. If you gain any weight from your initial visit to your pre op appointment they won't do your surgery. My initial visit was in April and I've had problems sticking to any kind of diet. if I could do this on my own i wouldn't be having this surgery. Part of me doesn't want to deprive myself now because I won't be able to eat some things after surgery. I think I've gained about 5 pounds. I'm going to start excersing today, and try and quit sodas. I have 2 more months before they can resubmit to my insurance and get my approval and surgery date. I am so ready for this. My body hurts all over. My joints and chest. I think it is from carrying all this weight around. Any suggetions for me to loose and stay on a diet BEFORE surgery.
Just some things off the top of my head... maybe try weigh****chers? you can eat what you want just only so much in a day. If you like to eat a lot maybe try adkins or south beach diet. One thing I found helpful was a rewards system... I would eat healthy mon-sat and sunday was a "free day" (not go super crazy but have a fav dinner and sokme dessert or something). Also, like you said, trying to cut out some things may help... soda is defaintely a big helper. Try cutting something else like fast food except once a week. Exercising will help because you will be burning more calories so if you do eat a little more at least the exercise will help balance it out. Remind yourself of the conequences of eating at this point - is a donut worth not having the surgery?? It is very hard but think of the reward if you can make it thru the next 3 months! Maybe see if there is an overeaters anonymous in your area if you need some support - they usually meet weekly and that could help out.
I'm in the same stage of pre-op dieting too. I tell myself that I am "in training" for after the surgery. One thing that had helped me has been to rid my house of the no-no goodies and stock up on special fruits and vegetables that I used to consider too expensive. Using my good plates and glasses has helped also. I have begun to put my yogurt in fancy wine glasses as a special treat for myself. Each day I remind myself that the surgery will be safer if I weigh less. Looking at the amazing before & after photos on this site are a vision of hope. I do not get on my scales either. Instead I am noticing that my clothes are getting, not yet loose, but less tight, at least. The Dietician weighs me at my visits to her. After one month I have lost 16 and 1/2 pounds and my knees feel much better.
Nobody told me this would be easy and boy, were they correct. Being Morbidly Obese is hard too. I wish you all the luck with this. Feel free to write to me. We can compare our progress together if you like.
Hugs - Annette
Krissy;
Keep your eyes on the long term goal. They're not expecting you to lose 100 lbs. before your surgery, but a few each month is good.
Don't get caught up in the "last supper" trap. Other than sweets, which we don't need to live. At 8 months post-op, I pretty much eat everything now that I did pre-op...just in much smaller quantities.
Think about how your body aches now and know that if you can stick to this 3 month pre-op diet, in less than 6 months, you'll feel like a new woman.
Blessings,
Jennifer
