sad
Don't freak! You were in the hospital for however long sucking up IV fluids. Some people retain that for a little bit. How could you possibly NOT loose weight with the amount of calories you have taken in? You WILL loose it!
Cheer up! It will get better. The first week sucks anyway!
Best wishes,
Michelle
Becky,
I had surgery on 7/3. Pre-op I had lost 11 pounds on the pre-op diet I was to follow. When I got home on 7/5 I had gained all that back. Within about two days that 11 pounds was gone and I was staring to loose. Then, on Tuesday, 7/11 I was readmitted from some complications from the surgery. I was there for two days and when I came home I had gained 5 pounds. I was bummed, to say the least. Again, within two days the 5 pounds were gone and I was starting to drop again. Both times in the hospital I had a continuous feed from the IV. Both times after coming home and not having the IV I dropped.
You have not had any protein drinks? Find a GNC and get some Isopure Zero Carb. It's clear, if you are still restricted to that stage, and has 40 grams of carbs for the 20 oz bottle. You should be getting in atleast 60-70 grams a day right now. My doctor stressed to me that protein comes first!
Are you also walking? The first week I was home I felt like I had been hit by a truck and did very little. I have more energy now, but still not walking as much as I should. Walking will help the weight to come off.

I didnt lose one single pound for 2 weeks post-op. Your body is still recovering from surgery and they pumped you full of fluids at the hospital which you are still retaining. You cannot let the scale control your life and make you so disappointment and upset this early out. Its virtually impossible to not lose weight at this point - your body just needs some time to catch up. Also, if you are on liquids and have been for a while your body could just be going crazy from lack of "food". After 2 weeks I moved to a soft foods diet, after the first day of "eating" the next morning I got up and was 3 pounds lighter. Also - you only had water and two cans of soup??? Make sure you are following your surgeon/NUT guidelines on what you should be having each day - get your protein in otherwise you are doing yourself and your body a great disservice.
Becky;
I'm not trying to flame you here, but with an attitude like that, you will fail. Look at the big picture...you just had major surgery and everyone's body adapts and reacts to that differently.
While in the hospital, you were on an IV drip. That usually creates at least 10-12 lbs. of weight gain in the immediate days post-op. And tha****er weight can take up to 2 weeks to pass through your system. Especially in the hot, humid Michigan summer (I'm a native Michigander and know it's been steamy up there this week from talking to my family).
Plus, you can't starve yourself as a post-op. It won't lead to effective weight loss. Your body needs fuel to burn the fat, so eat. Focus on protein first!
You can be a success, but you need to work on your attitude. Keep your eyes on the long term goal and you'll enjoy a happier journey.
Blessings,
Jennifer

Sad,
I felt the exact same way after having my surgery on 7-14-06. My abdomin hurt, I could only drink one ounce at a time. I did lose eleven pounds before my surgery, but I still wondered "why did I do this." I can't treat food or fluid like I used to. I expressed this sentiment to members on this website. Luann and others set me straight. This too shall pass. The first three weeks are the hardest. Things will get better. You will feel better. You will start looking better. And your weight will gradually come down. Stop thinking negatively. You have made the right decision and so have I. Today, I have barely any abdominal pain and I drink an ounce of fluid every ten or fifteen minutes whi*****ludes proten drinks, soup, water, propel, etc. and I love it. I get to eat soft foods next week and I'm looking forward to it. I get to have my staples taken out this week and given instructions from my doctor of when to exercise. Don't be sad Becky, the best is yet to come. It's your time and my time to get healthy. Let's strive to reach our goal. Good Luck Girl!
Becky, I gained back all the pre-surgey weight I lost plus some when I was in the hospital. A week after surgery, I was only back down to my highest weight ever. By my scale, I'm now down 49.8 pounds from that high. That's in forty eight days. I'm 55, sedentary and having trouble getting in all the water, and sometimes all the protein. I'm not walking as much as I should either.
So by this I'm saying YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE. Give yourself some time and let your body stop trying to protect itself from all the abuse it just went through. We fat folk have very efficient systems and they hang on to the precious fat cells as hard as they can. As the shock receeds, so will the weight.
We can do this, our bodies will lose at their own speed and we just have to keep usng our tool.
Best wishes, keep sipping.
Becky, try to relax, did you lose any weight pre-op, I find those that lost pre-op lose slower at first but it eventually catches up.
My angelette experienced the same exact thing 1 lb in 10 days and was so upset, she went on to lose over 100 lbs in 9 months, it will happen, have patience and follow your plan.
Stay positive and enjoy!
Dana
