Try the meat without first, then thin the sauce with water.  I found that taste had changed, but the meat was fine.

I loved A1 too!  But I was a little leery about the sugar content when I started eating meat.  A suggestion - try the South Beach Diet Steak Sauce.  It tastes somewhat close to A1, but has less than 1g of sugar per serving and only 5 calories.  I've been using it all the time on my steaks!  Good luck!

As I read your post, it reminded me so much of myself! I love red meat, especially steak, and I was so happy when I was given the go ahead to start eating red meat again. And I also LOVE A1 sauce! I agree with the other poster. The first time you try the red meat, try it plain. If you tolerate it, try A! the next time you have red meat. That way, if you don't tolerate the meat, you know it is the meat; if you have it the first time with A1, you won't know what had the adverse affect on you. Ya know? Chances are, you will be fine. There is such a small amount of sugar in the A1 that I highly doubt it will bother you. I eat it all the time but in the early stages, I only introduced one new food at a time. This is your best bet! Enjoy that steak!! Hugs, Denise

I think that I have seen a reduced sugar A1 sauce (made by A1) on the shelves at the grocery store.

I'm 15 wks. out now and when I want steak sauce, BBQ sauce etc. I put it on my plate and then just dip the piece of meat in the sauce instead of pouring the sauce over the meat.  You get a lot less that way but you still get the taste.  Start with just a corner of the piece of meat and don't put it on every piece, if you do okay then you can try more next time.

I too love A1 sauce.  I bought the A1 Carbwell and found no change in the flavor.  I like to dip my chicken in also. Enjoy the steak.  I am 3 1/2 months out and have only had like two bites of steak.  It agrees with me fine but I don't seem to want any.  Probably my own cooking is hte problem.  I need to go to a nice steak house. Take care,
Hugs,

I'm 10 weeks out and steak doesn't agree with me. Not even ground beef. I can eat chicken if it's in a soup and finely shreaded. I can't wait till I can taste a steak again.

I'm surprised to hear so many of you are eating beef so early out.  My surgeon said I had to wait 6 months before having any red meat.  Now, I really love a good homemade burger or steak, so I've been as patient as possible, but I really miss it.  I've been too afraid to try any red meat at this early stage (I had my RNY on 10/30). However, I have had a few bites of steak before....I chewed them for all they were worth and then spit them out without swallowing any.  Oddly enough, it was very satisfying.  I got all the flavor of the steak without any of the worry of being sick!
