I must confess

Ok, so I'm not looking for approval on this issue because I know I shouldn't be doing it but I thought maybe if I confess in a public forum like this I won't over indulge. It's morel mushroom season!  I absolutely love them.  We had some with supper Saturday night and last night.  I had too many Saturday night and just a few last night.  Saturday was the 1st time this year so I just overindulged.  Now just a few satisfies me.  We still have one batch left, we're not having them tonight but I'm sure we'll have them sometime this week.  Then hopefully my DH will be done mushroom hunting as he's also trying to lose weight. My rationale - this only comes once a year so I'm endulging.  Again, I'm not looking for people to tell me it's ok because I know that I'm eating one of the many things that put me in this situation in the 1st place but I guess I do eat WAY less of them than I used to. Just had to get that off my chest!

Hey, I'd much prefer to read a post from someone confessing to eating mushrooms than eating ice cream or chips (LOL).  they are low in calories and very healthy ...  Annette

It's all in the preparation.  These mushrooms are prepared by dipping in an egg wash, coated with flour or cracker crumbs and then fried in butter.  I've never had them any other way.  I suppose one could just saute in margarine like store bought mushrooms.  Then they would be just like any other mushrooms you can buy in the store.   I'd be curious to know if there are any mushroom hunters our there who have prepared them in a more healthy way that still tastes good.

I had never heard of a morel mushroom. I googled, and it says 5 of them have 20 calories. They have some protein and no fat. So I just don't think you should feel so guilty. (They're not the prettiest things on the planet, are they?) Besides, none of us are perfect and we all have to endulge every now and then.

I agree... Never heard of these but mushrooms seems like a good choice. I wonder what baking them would be like maybe on PK's wonderful meat crust pizza recipe......  Keep up the good work and don't feel so guilty, its not like you do it every day....

Hugs, Jodi Lynn

As a nice treat, why not use some of them in a low fat cream sauce to drizzle over a chicken breast? I found this a great way to eat these mushrooms, and it makes sure I get my protein in - I have this about 2ce a month. I can get you a recipe if you like?
