Avocados?

Does anyone have an post-op experience with Avocados?  They are a favorite of mine and I am wondering if the fat in them will be too much for my digestive system to deal with after WLS.

I have had some avacado...but I can only eat like a bite and after my protein.  I like them too...tonight I'm gonna have a tiny piece of avacado with my boca burger and hummus (I like wierd food combos).  I just try not to eat too much of them (not that I really could) or often because they are a rich fruit and higher in fat (although it's a good fat).

Yes, that sounds great!  My favorite way to eat a black bean burger is with avocado, onion (or scallions), belgian endive, tomato, and I blend silken tofu with horseradish as a dressing.  (I have mentioned a bazillion times that I am a vegetarian... but I am not sure who has read that so I am mentioning it again.)  I doubt that my favorite "burger" combo will sit well with me after surgery!!  I love weird food combinations... so I totally understand the hummus - Boca - avocado combo.  Thanks for sharing!!

(I am eight weeks out)  hey, i just figured this out two weeks ago! garlic boca burger, with a tablespoon of avacado, spicy hummus and some chopped can tomatoes or mild chunky salsa! Yum, Yum!  Only wish I could eat more with it -- like bread, or tortilla chips or bread, can you see i really miss good, hearty whole wheat or multigrain bread. I buy the avacado frozen now from schwans so I can just take out a little at a time since no one else in my home will eat it. madison

Oooh... I am going to miss my carbs too.  But I am doing well so far without them - pre-op.  I too, like really good bread - it's my downfall.  (I don't care about cake or sweets - just give me really good bread!)  I have tried the Schwann's frozen avocados - I figured I would use them in the event of an avocado emergency (which is serious in my home)!  :-)  I didn't like them at all - I think the salsa mixture ruins the taste.  But again, the Boca Burger - hummus - etc sounds divine and I am thrilled to know I don't necessarily have to stop eating avocados. I love avocados so much that an ex-boyfriend was trying to apologize to me about something once and knowing I think fresh-cut flowers from a florist are a huge waste of money (although romantic as they are) - he bought me a dozen avocados in a bed of Italian parsley in a florists box.  Ha ha ha!  That's how much I love avocados!  :-) Much success!!

Wow that is one serious apology - and awfully creative! Kinda cute but not in the way that you should stay with him if he's a creep way!  I made homemade quac early on in my soft stages - rippened avocados, diced red onion, lots of lemon and lime juice, salt, cilantro (my fave!) and one jalapeno - no seeds (I'm a wuss!)  It was so tasty! I love the idea of the boca burger and stuff - something I need to add to my recipe collection! Yummy!

I love that!  the only time i want fresh flowers is when they are delivered to work -- I love to make some of my more **stuck up co-workers jealous**  anyway that's another story.  I love going to whole foods and getting fresh avacado and tomatoes and cilantro and watercress.  I make fresh salsa or I have watercress and tomato sandwiches (no bread).  It all smells so good.  My husband is having a problem now trying to figure out what to get me for a gift.  that is a really good Idea!  No candy either, all the easy men things are now out. Oh well, good luck to you. Madison

Hey Phyllis!  Avocados are incredibly good for you - but what my research shows is that if you decide to eat avocados you want to avoid other fruits/veggies with oils to them because it can give you the runs because of the bypassed intestines. Low and behold - upon knowing this - I ate some avocado and then a little bit later I had some black olives (I was at my daughters B-Day party) and I got some real surprising results! Yippee! Can't we go a day without talking about "you know what!"? But if you consume an avocado then try to go a couple days between (or one - just not everyday IMO) because I notice when I do eat avocados I am little bit more regular then regular! So yep you can have 'em - and they taste oh so good and creamy - mmmmmmm! Love those avo's! You can find some info online if you type "Avocados and gastric bypass" in a search engine.  Good luck! Jen

Thanks!  Yes, it's great news that I will probably be okay with eating them.  The California Avocado Commission will notice a huge decrease in avocado sales if I can no longer eat them.  :-)  (Incidentally, I think it's a given that we will be talking about bodily functions here, and it's just an extension of my everyday family life... so go figure.  Ha ha ha!)  Thanks so much!

Speaking of Avocados, I believe I read someone here mentioned they ate guacamole during the puree stage or atleast after 4 weeks, any idea who that was? I was curious if they made it fresh or bought a store bought guacamole. I love guacamole! And I can't wait to be able to start eating some normal foods again. Kali
