I started my pre op diet on wednsday and I was fine all day long until that night I started to get a terrible headache and I still have it today.  Has anyone else experienced this while on pre op diet?  I think it has to be from shock to my body.  I don't think I can handle this for 11 more days!  Should I eat something more filling?  I have protein shakes and cottage cheese,  yogurt , broth and water all day long.  I really can't handle a headache for so long. The headache comes and passes as your body adjusts.  Do not change your diet to relieve the headache.  It does go away, but if you stop the diet you may get it back again when you get back on.  My headache lasted from day 3-5.  After that I got more energy, I think it is kinda a detox headach thing.  Part of mine was also going cold turkey with caffiene too.

Did you drink a lot of caffeine that you've cut out?  I know when I tried to cut caffeine out I had a headache from it for about 3 days.  You might try doing some tylenol to dull the pain. I wouldn't eat anything filling though. It's best to stay on the pre-op all the way through. It will make your surgery go much more smoothly and lessen your risk of complications during and after surgery.

It can't be a caffiene headache because I haven't drank caffiene for a very long time.  I drank caffiene free pop before my 6 months diet.  I think it is just from the change in eating.  I sure hope it goes away fast though.  Thanks for answering my post everyone.

I am on the two week pre op diet also.  My doc put me on protein shakes, water, and vitamins only.  I was just wondering what kind of pre op diet you were on? I am just asking because mine seemsso unreasonable and I feel like I am going to lose it.

You're body's detoxing. I suffer from migraines.  A naturopath suggested that taking a hot shower -- aim the spray at your shoulders and the back of your neck -- and after the shower placing your hands in a bowl of very warm (don't burn yourself) water and leaving them there will help the headache.  It works for me; can't hurt to try.

Oh yeah.....I do know what you are talking about - I'm one day behind you here. I started having headaches the first day, I'm attributing this to a sugar withdrawal...... And.....I keep forgetting to drink my water...... We can do it.....but the hunger is getting to me..... And....it's making me whiny...... I'm sitting firmly on my pity pot today, but I can share it with you if you need to. Candace

Since you said it's not caffiene, my guess it's from sugar...or lack of sugar.  When our body's our used to (or addicted to) sugar, it will literally go through withdrawals!  It does get better...about a week..maybe a little less.  Just keep with it, and you'll make it through!

I went through this terribly myself.. I also wasn't a caffeine drinker and KNEW it was the carbs.. If your doc allows any orange juice or oranges eat some of those it will help or a piece of melon.  If not.. then you are just gonna have to wait it out.. the third day it got a lot better.. take tylenol and drink warm tea.. I am sorry sweetie, I remember this very well.  Carbs are like drugs for us that were obese.. at least they were for me.
