Jessica, This is exaclty what was happening to me until about 6 months ago i went to a Endocrologist and he put me on Florinef. It balances your blood pressure and keeps it from dropping too low or spiking to high. it is a very small dose but it went away completly after 2-3weeks on the medication. he said i only need to take it for 6 months and my body will reset on its own and i can stop taking it. So 2 more weeks to my 6 months on this medication and i will be off it. i am 18 months out and have had the dizzy, fainting, blackout problem since about 2 months post op and spent lots of time in the ER and doing a ton of tests. Then i decided to try a endo doc and he did the test where they check your bloor pressure lying down then sitting up then standing up. That is when he found the bi drop. He also said to up my water . i had already tried that before the meds and no change. just sharing my experience. Good luck !!!!

Jeremy, Thank you so much for the information!! I am going to see if my PCP can refer me to an endo doctor or if his office can do the testing. Thanks for informing me of your experience. I hate that anyone goes through this, but comforting to know that I am not alone! Jessica

Hi Jessica,

I just "searched" for this topic because I am experiencing the same symptoms as you.  I have yet to actually fall or faint but it is very unsetteling.  My surgery was Sept. 15th and I am scheduled to have my first set of labs done this week.  Hoping to find some answers there!!!  Would like to keep up with you to see how you are doing and what you may find.

Keep up the great work, Jessica!

Sheila,

My labs always came back "perfect". I was told just to take my time standing upon sitting for a period of time. I believe that it is not enough protein at a certain time. Almost like hypoglycemia (low sugar) for diabetics. When I start feeling that way, I either will drink a protein shake or peanut butter and crackers. It usually goes away. I still often experience but it is not near as scary as it was. I had actually fainted 4 times. I hope this helps. Keep me posted on your status.

Hi Jessica,
I just did a search on dizziness and read your post.  I am having the same symptoms as you and wanted to find out how you are doing and did they find anything?  I have been to a cardiologist, endocrinologist, opthamologist, etc and everyone says I am fine but I still get dizzy.  I have been doing a lot of research and I am heading to my gynocologist to see if it is a swing in estrogen that causes it, my endocrinologist suggested it.  It makes sense because hormones are stored in the fat and with loosing so much weight so fast it could be a hormone inbalance.  I am very interested in what you have found out.
Thanks,
Danielle

Hi,
My wife and I have gone through the same problem.  I am a retired RN and my wife is a respiratory therapist and we soon found out that nobody underderstands why the sugar drops occur.  I am also a herbal medicine practitioner and began at once to research what was available about herbs that regulate blood sugar

We have tried many traditional herbs that have been used to regulate blood sugar and have found a few that seem to help  Most of these herbs are diabetes treatments and only further reduce blood sugar as we found out the hard way.  My wife has suffered 2 siezures from low sugar and carries emergency glucacon kits wherever she goes..

After much research and trial and error we have settled on a mixture of herbs that actually regulate blood sugar either too high or too low.  Most of these herbs are classified as adaptogens, which means they NORMALIZE body functions.  The current formula includes Gotu Kola, spearmint, black licorice, ashwagandah, chineese ginseng, red clover, roseroot, and small amounts of a few others. These herbs have been in common use for hundreds or thousands of years and are safe.  Many are eaten as food in the East.

I buy these herbs in organic quality from one of the most reputable herb merchants in the world.  Starwest Botanicals  I blend them and put them in size00 capsules and 2 capsules a day have kept both of us completely free of sugar drops for the last 2 weeks(when we changed from whole herb in tea form to powdered herb in capsule form.

I would be happy to provide the exact formula or samples of the mixture to anyone free of charge.  We know what folks are suffering and would be happy to help in any way.

I  completely understand what this fainting thing feels like.  I live in Canada, so my testing is all covered, but only recently have they decided to fund it.  My surgery was at Buffalo General 5 years ago.  The wonderful doctor still keeps track of my progress.  But this fainting thing has been a horrible and regular experience.  From the beginning of the symptoms (usually weak knees), I know I have only 10 minutes before I completely pass out.  After the weakness, I sweat terribly, slur my words, feel foggy and I am incredibly hot.  I cannot stand up, so I get to a safe place to lie down until it passes.  After 10 minutes of high body heat, I begin to feel freezing and my teeth chatter and I can;t get warm. While I am awake, I drink a high sugar juice (that I have to carry at all times.  5 minutes later I eat a snack of proteing.  Then I pass out for about 4 hours;  I'm exhausted when I come to.  I have to carry a cell phone at all times.  My doctors don't know what happens either.  The endocrinologist had me come to his clinic early in the morning after no food for 10 hours.  I was starting the fainting thing, so they took my blood sugar, a tube of blood, and sat me in front of them because I was fading.  I wasn't allowed to leave without a ride.  At the followup appointment, the doc said my sugar had not dropped while I was having these symptoms.  So he doesn't know why it happens. He could not explain why drinking a sugary drink helped (even 4 hours later),  My BP did go up a bit but it is normally pretty low.  One time I pulled the car over, left the engine running, locked the doors, and left the a/c on.  5 years this has been going on.  I plan to research it myself.  Sigh.

Jessica,

I saw you post but didn't see any additional info.  I had a similar problem just this past week.  I am 8 months post op and doing great, but I was just standing talking on the pone when...bam I got lightheaded and went blind. I didn't pass out, I didn't fall...I just couldn't see for about 10 minutes or hear for about 5-6 minutes.  I was scared to death. I had blood test done - they were fine. They ultra sounded my corradid artery for a blockage - fine...did you ever find out what caused your?

Thanks for your help,

Wendy
