Who can have a bagel?

Carbs are a good choice - your body needs carbs... as long as you are choosing whole grain healthy carbs that is fine. IMO a bagel is fine in the morning - you get carbs, fiber and a little protein, add some light CC and you get a little fat and more protein as well... you could even add some veggies in there and/or fruit - I wouldnt suggest eating a bagel over something with *more* protein if you are lacking but they are *not* a waste of space.

I disagree with carbs being a waste of space - carbs are a part of a balanced healthy diet - while 'bad' carbs are a waste of space, good carbs are not.

I'm with you on this one Jen. Nothing is a waste of space as long as it's done in healthy amounts and used with moderation IMO. Even healthy food can be binged on ya know?

Well.. I typically eat a bagel w/cc every friday from a local bagel shop - earlier out I would eat 1/2 and then save the other 1/2 for snack time because I felt very full.  Not sure what point but I am sometimes able to eat the entire bagel now but typically feel very full doing so (I get pumpernickle and its heavy!)... I usually still eat 1/2 and then 1/2 because I dont feel overfull. If you are talking a store bought bagel, Im sure I could eat that easier since they arnt as heavy as the bagel shop variety.

what brand are those? how long does it take you to eat one? and how many carbs are in it?  because my protein bar has 240 calories, 6 net carbs, and 19 protein, I can eat half, wait an hour and eat the other half, I still cant eat as much at once as some can. AmyBeth

I go to Brueggers Bagels - its a chain store... since I only eat a bagel 2-4 times a month I dont keep them at home. There are a lot of carbs - 67g (62 net carbs) in the entire bagel as well as 330 calories (not counting the CC)... may not work for most. Grocery store bagels arnt as large so the calories/carbs should be lower - not sure about any with a decent amount of protein thou. I had to increase my carbs at goal to maintain my weight loss... its definately at the high end but since I eat it only a few times a month I think its ok.. I work out quite a bit and had to increase my carbs for that as well. I typically eat 1/2 for breakfast at 830am and the other 1/2 around 1030/11a.
