How long before you could eat a salad?

I'm about 7 weeks out and I am able to have any food besides red meat and raw fruit and vegetables for 6 months. (That's what my surgeon said) So far I have tolerated everything really well Ham, chicken, turkey ect... But one thing I really miss is a salad. How long was it before you tried it? At my last appointment the nurse said I should try things and if they don't agree with me then wait a month and try again.

It's hard. I love salad, but sometimes it just doesn't work for me. I first tried it at about 6 weeks. You gotta try and make it high protein. ...hard boiled egg, cheese, ham, bacon, feta cheese, ....mostly protein, less lettuce. ....and chew....chew.... and chew. I chop it up really fine and that helps me. HTH you. Take care. Lunchie

I was ok'd to eat anything I could tolerate at 6 weeks. It's weird but salad was something I craved. Follow your Dr's and NUT's rules, and you'll be fine!

Well as with anything ALL Drs do not agree on things hon... My surgeon told me on my month visit I could have anything I wanted except red meat...pork or grapes I said I can have salad he said yes you can just chew everything very well.. I was so excited I left his office drove to nearest Jack in the Box and got a chicken club salad.. Not granted it took me 2 days to eat the whole thing.... (smile) but just a few bites totally satisfied my salad hunger.                  Hugs

Yeah, I think the salad thing was the hardest for me to wait on. My Surgeon also told me at 6 weeks to start having whatever I could tolerate, i was told two months out I could have raw fruits and veggies. I'm 11 weeks out, I eat alot of oranges (love the citrus), I eat salads alot too.... same for me though more protein, less lettuce. The red meat, my Dr never told me to wait on, of course I don't eat much meat at all anyways, but however, just chew chew & chew some more! Cristal

I have been scared to try salad as I have heard a lot of people on here say they don't tolerate lettuce very well.  I had my first salad yesterday and I will be 4 mos. out on monday.  It did okay, and I had my 3 mos. appt. last week (a bit late) and my NUT said yes you can try salad, of course like others said load it with protein first and my NUT said go for dark green leafy instead of iceberg or other lighter leafs for the protein as well and that the lighter ones tend to be worse on the system.  So I am on my way to eating more salads now too.
