Anyone feel they look *worse* after RNY?

Hi Jupiter, I don't think I look worse, but I have seen some people that seem (and in fact are) sick post-op.   I good friend of mine is in that case, God bless her, she's had so many problems.  She often tells me how much she regrets the surgery. Christian

I think I look much better.  I know I sure feel better.   At my heaviest, 290, I was constantly fatigued and in quite a bit of pain.  Now, I feel great and I'm not tired all the time.   I'm 42 and have had 2 babies (and 2 c-sections).  Considering that, I still think I look pretty good.  I certainly didn't expect to get my 20 year old body back.  My arms are awful, so I always wear 3/4 length or long sleeves- short sleeves at home, only.  The only other person that sees me under the clothes is my hubby.  He doesn't seem to mind at all.  In fact, I think he enjoys the new me.  My boobs used to be a B at 290, now they are an A-.  Oh well, they never were huge. I'm coping well.  For me, the biggest difference is in how I feel.  And I feel pretty damn good!  Today I am wearing size 14P jeans (not stretch) and I actually put my wedding dress on the for the first time in 20 years -  Wow! If, at some point, I can afford to have PS, I would certainly consider it.  Right now, I have 2 boys to finish raising and I'm trying to put gas in the vehicles! Great post, as always, Shari.

I've got 2 words for ya . . .  Floppy Manboobs! Still . . . I wouldn't change a thing :)   Being an old man with some loose skin is better than being a young man buried in a piano case.

I had the surgery 100% for my health, so in that sense the surgery was a sucess.  The only trouble is that as I lost weight I began to think that I could look better being thinner, so now I'm struggling with how I feel about my body.

I feel I look like a freak, and look much worse that I did at my heaviest.  I have issues with the lines that have appeared on my face now they aren't filled with fat, and issues with all my saggy skin on my belly.  I have a long way to go til I can resolve this.  I want to be normal for once in my life, but it seems I'm never going to be...

Thank you for this post - it has been very helpful reading the replies, especially those who feel great and confident.

OMG You have no idea, I feel like Jaba the Hut has taken up residence on my body from the boobies to the vajaja my belly button is his mouth--and his twin sisters Gerdie and Hildegard live under my arms. Thank G*d for Dr Rey's Shapewear other wise I wouldn't want to leave the house. That and friends who are supporative and would drag me out if I didn't leave on my own.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

Well. I am approaching a size SIX...but still wont be able (willing) to wear a bathing suit....due to the skin issues....So that is a little disheartening, losing all that weight, being in a normal size, but still have such a huge body problem that you wont even wear the most modest of bathing suits. People tell me all the time my skin glows, and I look years and years younger now. And, I look great in clothes. So, I'll take it!!! Shari, I've seen you post about this before-- Do you mean you actually *preferred* your body pre op, or is it that your body just is not where you want it to be *right now* in terms of weight loss?

It's not about weight loss or size--- I just look really crappy. Hard to quantify without showing you, but my eyes are badly sunken in and I'm very wrinkly. My whole body sloshes when I move. If you value roundness, and firmness, and a general look of health, it's hard to get used to. I think it's harder when you like the way you look pre-op.  I've accepted that I am not going to like my body aesthetically as much-- and I'm not bitter-- I always knew it was possible. I just wondered if there was anyone else here who's going through what I am-- and I think the answer might be , "No."  That's okay! just wanted to give another kindred spirit someone to talk to if they needed it.
