Do you get gas from protein shakes?
hi brazilwife
One hypothesis for the cause is lactose.
I looked at just one of the HMR shakes online (you can research further) and it had both non-fat dry milk powder, and whole milk powder, and whey protein concentrate. All three of these are sources of lactose.
If you try a product that has less lactose you might have better results. If so, then that product has more lactose than your system can handle.
You might discuss with your dietitian.
Does that help?

Crampy, bloating and gas are signs of lactose intolerance and whey sensitivity (as I am both)...so I had to switch to soy products. Soy worked better for me but it is so gritty and doesn't mix very well..so recently, I just changed to rice protein shakes. It's perscribed by my doctor in his "elemental" diet plan.
So, soy can make you gasey....lactose is for sure a tummy bloater and whey can do that too...you just gotta find the best one that works for you..
Good luck to ya ~ I'm stay'n down wind

I was having the same issues earlier this year but couldn't figure out what I was eating that would cause it. Finally I switched to lactose-free/soy milk and it helped a bit but it turns out the protein powder I was using is what caused the worst part of the gas problems. Could you try other types of shakes maybe? I also found it took several days to get whatever was bothering my pouch to exit my system so the changes take time!
