Halfway to goal @ 12 weeks post op!

I don't post very often and only respond to posts I feel I can add something productive and helpful.  I do read the WOW moment posts and haven't really had that many WOW moments to share of my own.  But today I finally have a WOW moment I felt worthy enough to mention.

I am halfway to goal at 12 weeks post op!  I am completely astounded and had to get on and off the scale about 10 times to make sure it was real.

And another WOW moment for me is that I no longer qualify for WLS.

I am comfortably in a size 16, down from a 22, and can get into some 14s.

I no longer have any physical limitations due to obesity. I can sit in stadium seats. I fit comfortably in a plane seat. I can walk as far and as long as I want and don't get winded or fatigued. I am off blood pressure meds.

One thing I wanted to share with everyone is I can directly correlate my jump start to quicker weight loss by uppping my water intake.  I was doing between 42 and 56 oz a day and now I drink about 80-90 oz of water a day.  I hope that tidbit of info helps anyone that feels their weight loss is stalling or too slow.

Good luck to everyone. Congrats to all of your WOW moments!!!!

Hi Shanna :)

congrats on your awesome weight loss too!  I wish I weighed 178.5!  You do much better than me on the protein.  My surgeon doesn't want me dependant on protein shakes (plus I hate them!) so I have to rely on food for protein.  I don't have much of an appetite so I am happy when I can get 70 to 80 grams a day in.

Thanks for sharing with me and have an awesome weight loss journey!

I keep hearing from everyone that increasing water intake will help with weight loss.  How are you increasing it?  I have tried but still seem to only get in 46-50 oz per day.  Trying to coordinate eating with drinking has been a challenge.  Some days I get in so little water that (TMI) my urine output drops to nothing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Also, congratulations on your weight loss.  Doesn't it feel awesome.  I am 3 months out and almost 50% down too.

Hi!

Welcome to the halfway club :) lol   I was never a big liquid drinker as a pre op so getting my fluids in post op has been a struggle. Basically I don't leave home witout a 24 oz water bottle, ever.  As soon as I think I had enough water I made myself drink more.  It was a huge struggle for me but now it is becoming habit.  Now that  I have been consuming at least 70 oz a day anything below that and I am parched.  I think it just takes practice to get the hang of it. In the beginning when I would make myself drink even when I wasnt thirsty it seemed to make me more hungry.  But as I got used to drinking more and more now I have less of an appetite.  I have found this weight loss journey as a post op to be trial and error.  I never listened to my body as a pre op and ate when I wasnt hungry and ate until I was past the point of full.  Now that I am post op I listen very closely to my body.  I see a therapist, now every other week, and we discuss my relationship with food and she gives me healthy coping techniques to deal with life rather than turning to my drug of choice, food.  Practice makes perfect.  One of the things my therapist mentioned to me was just because I have a feeling doesn't make it a fact.  She said you have to change your behaviors first and the feelings will follow.  Fluid intake was one of my issues so I put the feelings of feeling bloated and hungry aside and changed the behavior to just simply drinking more and now I no longer have the feelings I did previously.

Good luck to you and if I can be of any support to you just shoot me a message.  I am also on Youtube at www.youtube.com/avalongirl72 if you want to see any of my videos where I talk about some of these issues :)

Take care and good luck with your weight loss journey!

Congrats!  I agree about the water.  I drink at least 1.5 gallons a day and when it's hot, try for 2 gallons.  It helps!
