Anyone get pregnant post op - while on the IUD?

I have the Mirena IUD in place and an 10 months post op (in 10 days).  For the last month my husband and I have been only using the IUD and I'm starting to wonder if anyone has gotten pregnant while on that alone?    While we're obviously not 'trying' to get pregnant - neither of us would be upset if it were to happen.

The chances of getting pg are much lower with the IUD than even with the birth control pill.   I've had the Mirena in since my 6 wk post partum visit after I had my daughter 21 months ago and doing great!   My doctor even told me after he put my IUD in that day that from that second on, I don't need to use a backup birth control method and for me and hubby to enjoy ourselves....   You should be fine!!

The mirena actually has hormones so you shouldn't get pregnant. You should however be checking every month for the strings that are attached to the mirena. As long as you feel the strings it is still in and still working!! If people do get pregnant on IUDs mostly it is from them accidentally falling out!

Say it ain't so!! I've never heard of anyone getting pregnant while using the Mirena. I've have mine 4 years and love it for that reason!

I'm curious to know how Mirena "accidentally falls out."  I feel totally safe only using Mirena. Have not and won't use a backup.

I just left the gyno with literature on getting Mirena IUD.     For those of you who have it, how painful is the insertion process?????

No pain for me at all. Just a little uncomfortable and that may have just been because I was so tense. No biggie!

Oh my freaking Lord!!!  Soooo horrid.  Totally worth it now, but geez.  Thank God I still had some pain pills left over from my c-section.  My cervix is paper-thin (hence labor at 26 weeks) and when they used the tool to open it, they ripped my dang cervix.  He had never had that happen before, so maybe it won't be bad for you.  I have heard some people say to go during your period b/c the cervix is open. The cramping and bleeding is soooo much better, though.  I stopped having a period until this surgery!  Good luck!

Yikes...it did hurt for a moment there.  The worst part though is when they dilate the cervix it can stimulate the vagus nerve --> nausea and dizziness.  BUT, it's all over very quickly and the merena is wonderful.  Haven't had a period since it was "installed!" and it's so nice not to have another pill to worry about.

I just had Mirena placed on this past Monday and I must say for me it HURT!! What hurt was she used some kind of tool to pinch the cervix and the pinch hurt so bad and I had light bleeding for 24 hours after the placement. I am excited to use it though, just not having to take a BC pill everyday is worth it.
