Thanks -- I hope I have an experience like yours.  i.e. no memory of tubes.

Apparently my surgeon doesn't use drains so that is one less headache that I anticipate.

I too only remember being in my room and seeing my fatherinlaw and started to cry.. he is a preacher and I thought I was going to die becuase they called him in.. He lives about 2 hours away and we didnt know that he was coming the day of surgery...

They told me I could take a Ativan before surgery then I became really scared and the anesthesologist gave me some meds in my IV I walked to the room and I dont remember anything after that not even in recovery. Just waking uo in my room.

You are in great hands with the Anethesologist!

Did they give you the ativan at the hospital?  I did not get any scripts for meds to take before surgery.

No, I was taking Ativan intermintely for Anxiety attacks.
I already had it on hand and had talked to the nurse the night before and this is what she told me.

No memory of that at all, but I do remember the worse stabbing pain of my life when I woke up and I was crying my eyes out.  They told me it would take 45 minutes for the pain to subside, and it did take that long.

That's interesting...sorry you had to go through that.  I thought they kept us pain-free after surgery with morphine?

Yeah and for some reason the drip had not started prior to me waking up!  They told me it would take 45 minutes for the morphine to really kick in.  I remember thinking to myself......"thats weird Morphine isnt supposed to take that long."  But all I could do was cry until it stopped.  Burning/stabbing...I swear I've never felt anything worse.  I doubt most people have these stories...so dont take it as gospel, please!

Oh don't worry, I realize that not everyone goes through the same recovery.  The thought of intense pain doesn't freak me out, but I get totally freaked when I imagine being awake during intubation/extubation.  I feel like such a baby...

I remember speaking with my anestesiologist prior to surgery, he gave me meds to calm me down because I was anxious.  A few minutes later I was wheeled into the OR.  I scooted onto the OR table and I don't remember anything else until I woke up in recovery.  No tubes attached.  And yes I had the morphine pump for pain.  Hope this helps!
