Hi guys,
Im 238 and bmi 42.  Im in research phase of surgery.  For me I would be very comfortable at 170 even though i'm 5'3.  Should I even be considering bypass if I would be happy with a 70lbs. lose or should I only look at lapband.  For myself a 100 lose wouldnt look healthy.  I'm about a size 5/6 at 150lbs. so 125 wouldnt be unrealistic for me.  Just need some advise.  Thanks

Do you have any other medical problems? Are you super healthy otherwise?
I know I personally am not happy about the idea of having the lapband in my stomach. And also, I need the idea of before super restricted in order to keep myself in check.
If you are even questioning this, I am guessing you have already decided.
I agree that at my weight, 170 at 5'3" would be great! I am also 5'3", and to lose even that amount of weight would be awesome.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide!

Not without trying a lot to get the weight off first, or without serious life-threatening co-morbidities that were in imminent danger of ruining your life (or taking it)

I did start my journey needing to lose 196 lbs though, so perhaps I'm biased. I lost 57 pounds on my pre-op diet. If I'd "only" had 70 to lose, I would have worked to lose it and permanently worked to change my mindset about food.

That sounds so EASY to say... but I remember when I was in college, I weighed 200 to 220 and no matter what I did, I couldn't lose the weight. So I wouldn't be surprised if I was in your shoes, I might feel insulted by what I said in the prior paragraph. It was HARD to lose weight pre-op.... I had to change EVERYTHING. But there was a lot I didn't know when I was 200 - 220 lbs, that I wish I had a time machine and a way to convince myself how to lose that weight way-back-when.
It's always easy to speak from "the other side"

But frankly, I'd try to lose it on your own before permanently rearranging your guts and giving yourself permenant malabsorption of vitamins necessary to happy healthy life.

*hugs* and good luck to you.

I think you should ask this on the Lightweights board.  We're all folks who don't /didn't have that  much to lose.  Personally, I don't think you can be too rich or too thin.  But that's just me.

I only have about 75-80ish pounds to lose in total.   Although the whole reason behind my RNY wasn't so much about weight loss but to get my diabetes under control.  I was at 120 units of insulin a day and still have 300+ blood sugar readings every single day..  I was a size 18 at surgery 2 months ago and my 14's are pretty much falling off of me...  I'll be very happy at a 8/10 or so that I'm thinking the next 30-35 pounds will put me at..   Especailly considering that even the days I (experimently) don't take any insulin the highest reading I get is 140.

Yeah I initially had 186 pounds of excess weight to lose. Would I go through it for seventy, I don't really know. i haven't had that less to lose since I was in like grade 8. But I wish you luck with whatever your decision is.

I would look into the lapband.  I was told if you have under a 100lbs to lose that would be the best option :)

Well here is the funny thing that YOU have no control over ...YOU cant just set your goal and say OK lets do it ...YOUR body stops when it is good and ready...I started at 243 and I am 111 as of today just a few days short of ONE year...I was below goal at 6 mo my goal was 145  I am 5 ft 6 in ...so just to say you want to loose 70 thats now how it works...would I do it again of course I was Type 2 so this worked great for me...but I sure do miss my best friend Baskin Robin's ..
