Taking Zicam 3 days pre-op!

I havent had a cold in many, many months so why does one want to creep up on me 3 days pre-op?
I just bought some Zicam at Walgreens and did my first dose. I actually dont know if I have a cold or not it just has sort of felt like it all day long as if I am on the verge and even stronger tonight but I dont officially have a cold. Is it possible for Zicam to zap it before it is full blown?

It says on the box that if you take it at the first sign of a cold that it should shorten the duration of the cold.   Usually, I'll feel sick for a day or two after I take Zicam, where with a normal cold w/o Zicam, I'm sick for a week!   I got a really bad cold 6 days before I had surgery and it scared me to death that I'd have to reschedule my RNY or if it'd make me have complications afterwards (turn into pnuemonia or something).   I was still able to have my surgery thankfully!
