Hot flashes after eating

Hi there!  I am four years out from gastric bypass surgery.  The last couple of years, I have experienced hot flashes after eating.  It doesn't seem to be sugar related. I am not sure if it is dumping.  I don't think so.  Today, I ate a salad with eggs, lettuce, cheese and ranch dressing (not a lot of dressing), and it happened.  It is almost like if my stomach gets too full, maybe?  I am not sure. I have had a lot of blood testing done.  I am slightly anemic and have low Vitamin D and calcium. I am also prone to hypoglycemia if I eat something high in sugar or carb so I avoid them.

Does anyone else ever experience this. I am beginning to think it is all in my head.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for responding.  You get the hot flashes too?  Has anyone ever told you what they might be from?  Maybe related to the anemia or Vitamin D deficiency?  I was beginning to think I was crazy!  I forgot to mention that with this I get gassy.  Almost like my stomach is a balloon that is getting too full and is about to pop.  The hot flash is relieved sometimes after belching or passing gas.

Sounds like how I get if I have something with milk (ranch dressing) or whey....I am lactose intolerant and whey sensitive.  Also, I was just recently diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia.

If I have a product (unknown to me) with milk or whey ~ I get all gasey, bloating tummy and have heat wave come over me....

I actually have already been diagnosed with the reactive hypoglycemia (the late dumping), but the only symptoms I was having with this was the drop in blood sugar if I was being extremely active and not eating anything soon enough before my sugar dropped.  Sometimes it would drop even if I wasn't really active until I realized I needed to have something about an hour after I ate whatever I was dumping on to avoid the drop.

Dawn,

Does your face and neck get red when the heat wave comes over you?  I can't really pin point a specific food.  I thought it was spicy, sugar, carbs, but it happened the other day when I ate a salad, although I did have croutons on it.  It does seem to be gas-related.  I keep Gas-X or something to that sort on hand to take if I begin to feel it. I think it helps.

Do a google for "late dumping syndrome".  I'm almost 3 yrs out, and this just started for me as well.

I do this as well.  It is my only sign that I am dumping.  I started out having severe diarrhea with it but as times progresses there is less diarrhea.  Shelli

I don't get diarrhea anymore with the dumping, either.  Just the heat wave and extreme chills.

I get this from high protein foods. A plain chicken breast or ultra low carb protein shake does it to me the worst. I attribute it to my body burning protein best and it starts right away. My body radiates so much heat after eating protein my hubby can tell 2 feet away from me in bed that Im doing it.
