I was made an honorary Jewess many years ago-- even was thinking about the mikveh at a point...but ultimately decided to keep my "free agent" status. ;)

There's actually a complex answer to this:

House Foods of NJ -- the biggest US distributor of soy (wet) shirataki (the one you will find at Whole Foods) is decidedly NOT certified Kosher. That's the one I use in my daily recipes. I'm a shiksa-- I can doo dat. ;)

However....

Miracle Noodles (which you can send away for... http://www.miraclenoodle.com/index-1.html)
purportedly *are.*

You have to check with individual companies.

Hope that helps!

Wow--you almost went to the mikveh! Sheesh!

I'm not surprised that the House Foods brand is non-kosher. They make a lot of other products in their plant here in SoCal for the Asian marketplace and I don't think kosher certification necessarily occured to them.

Miracle Noodle, IIRC, comes somewhere in FL. So if that one was kosher if wouldn't be a surprise given the FL demographics.

On a separate note, I understand what you mean about being a free agent. I'm baptized, and technically am a member of a church, but I dont just go to that church. Haven't really found one that I really feel comfortable in just yet (being raised Jewish, however, it is a bit of a culture shock, so it's taking time to get used to it.)

Your Jewish shiksa friend,

Cindy (who loves that you know what a shiksa is!)

P.S. Oddly enough, I have some *other* relatives who don't keep kosher at all, but would probably be just fine eating the House Foods shirataki noodles on Passover because they are't wheat based, even though they aren't kosher... If you've ever met Jews who eat Chinese food, you will understand.
