Chest pain is Dumping Syndrome !!
I originally posted this over od the DS board but I'm adding this over here. Maybe it'll be of some help to someone.
I am an old RNY (1998) I have been having increasing chest pain and rapid heart rate sweating etc. have had all the cardiac workups including cardiolyte stress test. ALL NEGATIVE for ischemia or EKG changes. Dr Burch at Boston Medical Center was the 1st Dr to listen when I said I thought this chest pain was related to eating. He said he felt this was dumping syndrome and I believe he is spot on. If I weren't an old ER nurse I would probably have run to the ER with these symptoms many many times. Now I REALLY want the DS procedure. Forget all the rest of it; to sit and debate with myself if this chest pain pressure and heart racing will pass in a half hour or is this the "real thing" this time and get to the ER, this is ENOUGH. The cardiologist who called me tonight with the negative results is the nicest guy in the world, but his solution for me is, Just lose weight and eat smaller meals. HELLO !!!

Here's a theory as to why this may happen:
I take Amitiza for constipation. What Amitiza does is activate the chloride channels in your intestines, and add fluid to the stool, which helps pu**** through.
If you have no functional pyloric valve (like with RNY) when food hits your intestines all at once, fluid also rushes in to help break it down (which is what "dumping syndrome" essentially is.)
My Amitiza gives me chest pain-- it's a lesser side effect, but a fully documented one. The pain feels like your chest does after swimming a while in a chlorinated pool and then taking a deep breath...like your lungs are constricted. It passes within a couple hours.
So perhaps that's something like what you're experiencing....seems completely plausible to me!

I always thought Amitiza sounds like someone saying "I'm a teaser"
lately I've found that a spoonful of peanut butter a day helps my constipation. I never knew how blissful "good poops" were until I started narcotics and got all stopped up.
interesting theory on the chest pains. I dump like a truck, but don't get chest pains, thank goodness.
