I'm interested to hear about how fast people got up and moving into a light to medium excercise routine like walking a few miles post-op.  Surgeons want you to be active, but what's TOO ACTIVE post-op after per say 2 weeks out?????

I walked from the onset.  At first it wasn't very far but I kept at it, increasing when I could.  I now run.

At two weeks, my doctor wanted me to be walking.  Now at over 6 weeks out, I am starting pilates classes tommorrow 2x weekly along with elipticals(sp)?.  Always check with your surgeon as well.  Congrats on your surgery
I pray to always remember newbies

it has been stressed by my surgeons office greatly the committment to excercise, but im just curious how active people really were and how did your body feel.  I have read how some people really were exhausted and always felt tired 2 to 4 weeks after surgery and found themselves trying to catch up on some sleep.

Up until 7 weeks post op, I was cleared only for walking and they said to walk every day and gradually build up to 30 minutes at a time but to stop when I felt tired.

I interviewed for a job in a doggie daycare a couple of weeks before my surgery and got the call that I was hired while still at the hospital. I deliberately applied for such an active job to make sure I would have no choice but to get moving as soon as possible and I started two weeks after my surgery to the day. I was exhausted after work at first but within a few weeks I had built up enough stamina to work up to 5 or 6 hour shifts and now work about 30 hours a week at 7 months out and try to make it to the gym several times a week as time permits. I still nap for about an hour after work but I can keep up with the college students that work their and of course the dogs that I have to chase. My job is a real workout from scrubbing kennels to mopping floors and raking gravel and I never have time to sit at all. I also bath dogs and have to pick up even 75 pounders by myself to get them into the bathing tub. I can do it. I wasn't required to do this the first two months because the owners know about my surgery from the start and were pretty protective at first but I let them know when I can do more and now I can do it all no matter what the challenge is.
SO.....in answer to your question you will be surprised by how quickly you can do more and the more you do the more you will be able to do. Just follow your surgeon's rules about lifting and so on and you will fly before you know it.

You should have no problems with walking, just don’t push yourself.  I wasn’t cleared for regular exercise until 6 weeks out and frankly I don’t think I could have done it before then without hurting myself.  I am glad I let myself heal.

You are gonna do so great!  You are motivated!  That’s the first step.

Not sure how normal this is but I am 4 days post sugery and walked 1 mile  each day for the last 2days- but it takes me three different walks to doit.  I don't do a mile at once.  Should i be doing more at this point?  I see my doctore on Friday and will get feedback I am sure.

Take your time make sure your completely heal, don't want to add an injury . I waited until 2 month before I return to the gym. I feels great I can master all gym equipment meaning( weigths , machines, classes, water arobeics) with out wondering if i'm tearing or hurting something.
