How thin is TOO thin?

I am 5'11" also, and my surgeon's goal for me is 160.  He said at that point we could take a look at how i am feeling etc.  But I would say to get to a point where you personally are happy and comfortable and not worry about anyone else's opinion of what is best for you!

I think it is almost impossible for a doctor to give us each a set goal when our bodies are all so different and we all caryy weight differently.  You look AMAZING!

I'm a little over 5'11", and my surgeon wants me at 160, which is the supposed "ideal weight" for someone 5'11". At this height, the "healthy" range is anywhere from 140 to 180. Depending on how much extra skin you're carrying, you could realistically be closer to the low end of normal even though you're smack-dab in the middle scale wise.

Personally, I have a medium frame but a large muscle mass remaining from years of being a competitive swimmer. My thinnest was around 165-170 about five years ago, and that was a good weight for me, though I could have afforded to go lower. (Of course, I still felt huge because I was 16 and muscular compared to all the teensy-tiny girls I went to school with.) That put me in a size 12 at the time. However, I know my body will be different this time. In the 210's, I'm pretty comfortable in a size 16 at the moment, and I'm glad to have left the plus sizes behind.

All that to say, if you're not worried and your surgeon/doctor aren't worried, I think it's all good. However, according to the stats, you're at the ideal weight for someone your height, so I probably wouldn't try to lose anymore, unless you're worried about bounceback.

Actually, the statement "too thin" is really subjective...I'm a size 6, 5 ft 5 inches and I weigh about 128 (give or take) and Terri R is 165, same height and also wears the same size as me...Is one of us fat? Nope. Just the number on the scale is different. We're both fit but she could, seriously, kick my ass...

I haven't put on an ounce but my jeans' waist is tight. I haven't been doing my ab exercises...whatever.

You are not too skinny. How thin is too thin? Only you and your doctor can determine that.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Exactly!  That is what I said in my post too Dawn.. muscle makes big difference.  I was 5'4" and 144 lbs and wearing 4's preop and small with some medium tops.  Now I am 133 after lower body lift and in 3/4 and small tops, xs scrub pants.

This is a GREAT thread.  I'm 5'11" tall and have been overweight all my life.  I have no idea what I'm going to look like at a "normal" weight.  I think I would like my final weight to be in the 170's, so the upper end of normal for my height.

My opinion is that if you are doing everything you are supposed to be doing...right calories, right quality of food, vitamins, exercise...then only you and your doctor should be deciding if you are too skinny or just right.

K, From one of the shorties ( me) . I am 5'3' on a good day, wearing shoes. I weigh 125-130 on any given day. My lowest weight post surgery was 112. I was in a size 2. I looked very sickly, but I did not know it!! I had to regain about 12 pounds. Aand still..people tell me I am tiny. I don't see it, and I don't see my self as too thin. Right now I can wear anything from a size 2 to a 6. 8's awallow me.
Jessica, you are a very stunning woman. You will only be too thin when your doc says  you are. Or when you become malnourished. Actually, you can be heavy and malnourished, go figure!!

PS..Can you tell me how to get those lovely pin up girl rolls in my hair?

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.

Um, you remember those pictures you posted where you're all dolled up and backlit?  How much did you weigh in those pictures, because I'd say that whatever weight that was, it was freakin' perfect.  Seriously, you're a goddess.  Anyone that says different needs their eyes checked.

Just my two cents.  Work it, chica.
