Dr's Note to bring fluids on a plane?

Hi All -

I do 100% travel for a living - twice per week.  Just has a VSG 18 days ago and go back to work next week.  I want to know if I can get a doctor's note (or something) to be allowed to bring liquids through security?  It is still a struggle all day to get down a decent amount of liquids.

I know i can buy that $5 bottle of  "Vasa" water when I make it through, but still....

Has anyone done this?

I went to the TSA sight and they did not mention needing a note, but how else would you prove that you need to be able to carry liquids on a plane?  Here's the link for TSA BTW:

Sorry, I don't travel much but from what I read it sounds like if you declare your bottled water you will be allowed to carry on your own.  Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to get a note from your doctor and/or call the airlines to see what they have to say about needing a doctor's prescription for water.  I know there are plenty of business travelers here on the boards so I'm sure someone will chime in with their experiences soon.

It is hard to say what exactly they are saying on the web site and in addition to that the PDF. They are saying that you can have liquids when having a medical condition but keep referring to it only being 3oz. They also refer to having a letter from an MD in the PDF. Your best bet is to contact TSA and get a further explanation on the rule.

As a matter of reference my DH and I both have had RNY and have traveled on planes since our surgery 6 years ago and we just buy the water once past security as it saves a hassel from the guards in the long run.

You can get on the plane carrying water. You can't get through security.  You can take your empty water bottle and fill it up at a water fountain after you get through security and board the plane with everyone else.  I've done this a couple of times.  I've also bought the water after security (3 or 4 bottles if its a long flight) and carried it on board with no problems.

I agree with Imjustbek. You can't bring liquids through security, but you can bring the empty bottle. Once you are through security, refill it at a drinking fountain and you are ready to go. It's much cheaper than paying $5 a bottle  for "Vasa" water.

I've read of people getting their empty bottles taken...honestly every airport can be different. I wouldn't take an expensive Nalgene bottle because you just never know what will be ok and what won't. When I flew back from Guatemala they did a pre-boarding check and took away all the drinks people had bought after security...my friend had warned me so I didn't even try to take a drink on...but others were PISSED...and we were flying to Miami.

ya, i just find those  water fountains disgusting - seen too many luges in the drain part!  Not a germophope in general - but public water fountains are gross to me.

Imjustbek is right...  TSA will NOT let you take water through security.  It does not matter if you have a doctor's note.  (Can you imagine how easy that would be to fake?)

I travel just as much as you do... I pay the high price for water, then charge my company!    I have not had any problems taking an empty cup and lid (my shaker cup for protein drinks).

Best of luck!
