ya I am on per diem ;(

No charging it in.

Have you ever tried or investigated the doctor's note deal?

Again, I appreciate everyone trying to be helpful, but i KNOW i can carry empty containers and I KNOW i can buy that $5 bottle of water.

I do this every week - I get up at 4am and head for the airport on Mondays - I just wanna be able to grab a bottle of Dasani and an Atkins shake - I don't want to fuss with powders, mixer bottles, buying water, luges in the foutains, etc. if I do not have to

Has anyone ever used the Doctors Note?

I have a friend who said TSA told her she could take protein shakes if she had a doctor's note, so I would guess the same would apply to water.  But you could always call and ask.

I fly quite a bit and am an RNY'er...I have never had a problem with my RTD's and water bottles through security or gate...I place them in bin to be scanned/ xrayed and let the TSA know it is a medical necessity...they open the water and "test" it and thats it...major airports nationwide has never been a problem..in fact the agents compliment me on the brand of protein shake I drink :)

Try it...also I have a medical id bracelet and that has helped as I have shown them..sure anyone can get one of those but it may help...

Hi All -

I do 100% travel for a living - twice per week.  Just has a VSG 18 days ago and go back to work next week.  I want to know if I can get a doctor's note (or something) to be allowed to bring liquids through security?  It is still a struggle all day to get down a decent amount of liquids.

I know i can buy that $5 bottle of  "Vasa" water when I make it through, but still....

Has anyone done this?

I went to the TSA sight and they did not mention needing a note, but how else would you prove that you need to be able to carry liquids on a plane?  Here's the link for TSA BTW:

Nope, they will take it from you.  No airline is going to trust a doctor's note and rightfully so.  Terrorists can get notes too.

Why must you take liquids with you?  Why not some powder and ge****er from the airline staff.

You can't take water with you BUT you can have 4 books of matches and up to two lighters.  I'm just sayin ;) Lou

Don't know how this will help, but in DC when I was going to all the museums and such last spring, I could bring a water bottle as long as I was willing to sip from it in front of them and then leave it in my bag except in the cafeteria area.

I flew from Phx to NY a few months ago and TSA would NOT allow me to bring my Atkins drinks through security because I did not have a Doctor's note to "prove" the were medically necessary.( I offered to show them my surgical scars. I even demanded to and was allowed to talk to the suprevisor and was still denied.
Apparently if I had a doctors note it would have been OK.
I would strongly encourage you to just get a note from your MD for the ready to drink shakes. I would probably not try to bring any more than would be "reasonable use" for the time you would be in the air.
The only other option I can think of is to bring "protein bullets" with you which are less than 3.5 oz. I am not a big fan of drinking them straight but it would avoid having to have a note from the MD.
I am hard pressed to think they would allow you to bring water through security since that is readily available once you pass through security though you do pay outrageous prices.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

id call my airline and find out the specifiactions. i went thru this with american a few months back and everything went ok. i was scared i woudlnt be allowed my protein powder thru security without a checked bag and i was ok.

im sure if you have a drs note of necessity for your liquids everything will be ok, just give em a ring! :)

good luck! <3

I had a note from my dr for water for my CPAP when I flew and for the CPAP itself due to the fact that the type of water I was carrying was available past security I had to throw it away even though it was a small bottle of water. Also when I flew with my twins I had the powder formula and had 1 small bottle of nursery water and they wouldn't let the nursery water go threw. Garbage, had to buy some regular water to make bottles with when passed security.
