What will happen if you cheat on your post-op diet?

I had my surgery May 18 and I am barely able to drink my protein shakes.  Anyway, my little niece  had McDonalds, a fish sandwich, fries and sundae with nuts and whip cream.  Boy did it look good to me.  So I pinched a piece of the fish sandwich, just the inside no crust or bread.  I tried to swallow it and it gagged me. I started coughing I though I was going to throw up.  Anyway, that was a good lesson for me.  I think about food all the time. The advertisements on TV, I smell it all the time.  I hope this ends. I need to reprogram my mind.

What are you thinking of cheating with...yogurt or M&M's...what food stage are you in.  I went home from the hospital on scrambled eggs, refried beans, etc. but some people are on liquids for a while.  What is your docs plan, were you ok with this plan before surgery?  Take a deep breath, follow your plan, and look for the future, you are in charge of your destiny, only you can succeed, and only you can fail at this undertaking!
Good luck!

I know what it is to think those thoughts.  The stages suck but you will be over them.  Just keep trucking.  The hard part will be over and you soon enough will be on solids.  You didn't go through all that hard work of getting approved to just fail.  ;)

The surgeons office related the tale of an early post op who within the week ate several slices of pizza.  His lap surgery had to be redone this time open because he split his staple line.  You are healing and may be desensitized to the pain.

My surgeon does only a few days liquids so I can only imagine how hard this is for you.  Keep the liquids flowing to hold back hunger

Will it kill you?  Probably not.  Do you know I was eating 'mushies' as of day 3 post-op?  That was my surgeons plan for me.  The full liquid thing for weeks I cant understand. I was allowed up to 2 oz/time, wasnt prob getting more than 1, but I was doing well!

I think any cheating would soon remind you never to do it again. I imagine one would quickly feel sick - and also not be allowing healing to happen as it should! Take care!
