UTI after surgery
If they put a foley catheter in you during surgery, that could have pre-disposed you to getting a UTI.
Probably will need to have your urine checked to be sure.
In the meantime, drink lots of fluids & you could try AZO which they sell OTC at stores. AZO does take away the bladder pain, but will not cure an infection. Just a temporary comfort measure. If you do take AZO, be warned, it turns your urine bright orange.
I would also check with your doctor to make sure it is ok to take AZO...or maybe if you call him he will call in an antibiotic.
Well I couldn't get anyone from the Bariatric Center to call me today - duh, its Sunday - so I called my reg doctor and he was good enough to call in a script, warning me that I should be seen if I get worse, like run a fever. I told him this morning my urine is tinged with blood. I am allergic to sulfa drugs, so AZO is out. Yes, I had a Foley - two in fact, since I had two surgeries. Meanwhile I am taking my Lortab elixir pain med (from the surgery) to take the edge off the pain and burning.
As far as I know, AZO does not have any Sulfa in it.
It is not an antibiotic, but is Pyridium which helps the pain and inflammation of a UTI.
Bactrim would have Sulfa in it, which is commonly used to treat a UTI.
Cipro is a good med to treat UTI's and does not have Sulfa in it.
Bactrim and Cipro are both antibiotics that require a prescription.

I'm just going by an experience years ago with a med called azogantanol. I had a reaction to it, and they said to stay away from sulfa drugs.
No one from my Bariatric Center has yet to cal me - so I called my gp helped me out by getting me Cipro. What a horsepill! I tried to cru**** and mix in cottage cheese, but it was so vile I couldn't stopm gagging. Luckily, I got it down, but it did get stuck for a while until I chased it with some food.
