Freeze crackers?

I hate buying a box of crackers as either I will eat them all or they go stale. Do  you think they can be frozen?         Wheat thins or similiar?

Also is cream cheese a good fat for us?

i am almost 2 yrs out and struggling with old bad eating habits .

I am failing to plan therefore I am failing.

I am looking for new items such as cream cheese and crackers or cream cheese and carrotts/celery.

Also would 1 pancake with a sausage link be something too bad to eat?

Thanks

I would think freezing the crackers would put moisture inthem and make them go stale. Crackers will keep very long in an airtight container in the pantry. Instead of the crackers as a snack , try placing a dab of cream cheese into the middle of a slice of Buddig beef or ham and rolling it up- very yummy - with more protein and no cracker carbs!

Good suggestion, but some times you just NEED that cracker crunch!!  I would buy smaller portions and repackage them into smaller air tight containers.  Thiose 100 cal ones would seem to fit the bill.

I agree that the best way to store crackers would be in an airtight container.

I too am struggling with old habits.  It would be best for me to keep anything like that out of the house.  Crackers are a slider food.  They dissolve with saliva and I could keep eating forever.  BAD FOR ME!
(I am needing to get back to basics)

I like the cream cheese on sliced meat idea.

I get the low sodium Triscuits-big crunch and they fill you up.  Portion size is 6 crackers I think.  Im can eat 3 and then 3 later on.  Usually put peanut butter or some cheese on them.  I have all of my dry goods in Modular Mates-the best Tupperware container, its air tight and liquid tight.  PM me if you need more info about Modular Mates/Tupperware.

I agree with the airtight container.  Freezing crackers will make them soggy when they unfreeze.  Cream cheese is not a great choice - it's high in fat & calories and low in protein. You'd be much better off dipping your veggies in a non-fat or low-fat ranch dressing/dressing of your choice.  Try eating a piece of low-fat cheese with your crackers -it's healthier than cream cheese.     If you make protein pancakes - then at least you will be getting some benefit. And sausage is a greasy meat not high in nutrition/protein. Once in a while it might be okay but not on a regular basis.   Maybe - try eating a slice of ham with your protein pancake.

My grandmother used to buy groceries for a month (she was blind), so she had to freeze a lot of things.  She would buy enough bread for 1 month and freeze the loaves.  She would place the bread in brown paper bags and tightly close them.  When she needed a loaf, she would take one out and set it out until it thawed.  It worked.  I am curious if you can do the same with crackers.

I live in an old drafty house, when it's humid outside I have lots of moisture inside the house.  I have always put my crackers in the freezer as soon as I bring them home from the grocery store.  Never had a problem with them getting stale or soggy when you take them out, they taste just as fresh as the day I bought them.

I freeze them all the time and they remain crunchy.    Also, there is a no fat cream cheese and it tastes good.   I make whole wheat pancakes and they taste good.  I see no problem with one sausage link either.

Not sure on the freezer thing, but wanted to pass along that All Bran makes a multigrain cracker that is delicious. Small and crunchy with 5 grams of fiber and a bit of protein to boot (2 grams). Makes me feel better about crackers. I actually cut up an ostrim jerky, a few bits of havarti cheese (or whatever you like), put a piece of each on a cracker and dip it into homemade sweet and spicy mustard (just spicy brown mixed with splenda--yummy!).

I will occasionally do a regular pancake, but prefer to do the protein ones with turkey sausage and sf syrup.

Take care!
