How far out before you can have tortilla chips and salsa?
I'm only 3 weeks and 4 days out, but just curious how far out before having chips and salsa? I absolutely LOVE Riviera Maya's "chips and salsa and also goat cheese dip. Not even sure if I will ever get to have that again...but hope so in moderation of course.

Hmmmm...well there are two answers I could give: the "stock answer" would be some lecture about breaking ties with foods that can be triggers and yadda, yadda.
But here's the real deal. I don't deal with tortilla chips because they are one of those things I have a REALLY hard time moderating. If I am at a restaurant where they are served I usually ask the server not to bring them. It's just like that with me. I didn't rearrange my guts to be taken down by a damn tortilla chip!
But to answer your question, I tried tortillas at about 6 mos post op maybe? I'm not sure. It was before I was a year out but not before six mos.

I am about 8 weeks out and I have eaten them. I love them, but I have been able to eat them in moderation. They go down easily. I am going through a thing where I get nausea from warm food, so this has helped me. I don't eat them that often. I just started testing salads and they go down easily also.
Yeah... tomato is way too acidic for my stomach. (I'm about 2 months out). I tried eating one of my summer favorites, gaspacho, and 'bout died. I wonder if any of our OH veterans can tell us if that changes down the road.
And regarding the chips, I'm with Nik... I can eat them at 2 months out (if I chew them to smithereens), but the question is, can I stop eating after just a few. That's what you will have to find out for yourself.

Well I'm not sure about anyone else but since I have been able to eat mushies this week, I use salsa on my scrambled egg(just about a spoonful tho). So far no problems, I went to a friends party she had baked tortillia chips and I tried 2 to see how they felt. It was fine. But ofcourse everyone's different. I go out alot and I know I wont be able to drink, so my pleasure comes from knowing I'll be able to eat a few chips and salsa at the bar.

It really amazes me how different everyone post op diet rules are from our doctors. My doctor would say 8 weeks out for chips because it's considered a solid food. I fink it interesting that the one girl's doc suggested no tomatoes but my doctor had me drinking V8 the 1st week (there is carrot's in V8 which usually neutralizes the acid.). Therefore I would talk to your doctor. No matter what, make sure you chew it so much it because liquid in your mouth before you swallow. You don't want to damage anything.
At my 3 week mark my dr cleared me for eating crackers and other "Crispy" things as long as they were easily broken down into nothing in my mouth. I was a little over a month out when I had a tortilla chip. I eat them occasionally now.
My Dr doesn't really restrict anything as he wants his patients to learn moderation and eat as normal as possible.

I was about 6 weeks out when I first tried them. It was about the same time I could have crackers. I made sure to weigh out 1oz of the chips and 2 Tblsp of salsa (per the nutritional info for a serving) and did fine with them.
I dont have them often because they are also one of my "trigger foods", but I honestly can say that a serving satisfied me being able to crunch something and have the spicy zing that I love.
As others have said, though -- you might not be able to tolerate the acid from the tomatoes in the salsa. I didn't have any problems with them but everyone is different. Proceed cautiously your first time.
