Don't know if it is because of protein.........but protein in your diet is important for sooooo many reasons and one thing protein does effect is the stability of blood vessels and the osmolality of fluids in the body. If your protein level gets to low things heal less well and serum protein and albumin drop you may even have peripheral swelling or seeping of fluid into the "third space" or tissues of dependent tissues ie ankles, feet, hands.

Protein is not an option. It effects way to much. Even calcium levels are effected. You need to find a real good source and try really hard.

I have a question for you!!

I had an Upper GI the other day because the NUT and NP at my Bariatric Center thought that I may be developing an ulcer.  However I don't have the typical pain, nausea, and I only have limited heartburn (which admittedly, has been worse recently).

My problem is that I can't always keep food down.  At least once a day I have problems with vomiting (sorry if that's TMI).  There's no logical pattern to it - and a food that worked yesterday, and will work tomorrow - may not work today!  I believe that it's stress related, but she ordered the upper GI to check it out.

I just wondered what your symptoms where.  THANKS!

Well I haven't vomited. In fact I have never don that once since I had surgery. I consider myself quite fortunate in that - I HATE to puke!!

The symptoms for me are instant pain as soon as food hits my stomach. Also pain when my stomach is empty. Worse than normal belching and heartburn.

I was diagnosed with an ulcer June 11.  I have had an awful time with it.  It hurt to eat, so I pretty much stopped.  I was getting many of the same symptoms you have and now a few months out from the worst of it - my hair has started falling out again.  The upside, I'm 1lb from goal.
Get protein in wherever you can.  For a while, the only thing I could eat is peanut butter on crackers.
Milk was killing me too.  One thing tho, that gives a ton of protein is a yogurt smoothie: Chobani vanilla yogurt (18g protein) with designer whey vanilla protein (18g protein).  36 grams total.  Add NSA frozen berries and ice cubes, a half a banana if you can tolerate the sugar.  It tastes like a smoothie from the mall and it was ok on my tummy.  I can't stand regular protein drinks, but this is good. I think this is what has been keeping me from being a total vegetable from not eating much in the way of solid foods.

Thanks for all your suggestions, but much of the food you mentioned I can't eat. You see, the ulcer is at the opening of my pouch, so eveything I eat rubs against it after I swallow. Even though I chew until mush, most foods still hurt. Even flavored waters, especially orange flavor. Isopure especially burns. I am sticking to yogurt and cottage cheese.

Where do I find the unflavored protein? I can only find vanilla and chocolate. And will someone explain what Walmart's protein bullets are?
