Could Vitamins be causing my diarrhea?

I have had it for 2 straight days.  The only thing I have done different is start my vitamins on Sat.  It seems to come on about 2 hrs after I take the calcium.  Just curious...

Are you taking them with some food? That might help.

Are you sure you don't have a stomach bug of some sort?  You mentioned vomiting earlier now diarrhea?  Just a thought?  That said, vitamins on an empty stomach can do bad, bad things!

The earlier vomiting was definitely a stuck episode. I feel fine now. I take the vitamins usually right before I eat. The 2nd calcium is taken alone usually hrs after lunch.

What brand of calcium are you taking?

If it is chewable calcium sweetened with sugar alcohols (the ones ending in "itol", i.e. Malitol, Sorbitol, etc.), that could be the issue. I know a lot of people get diarrhea from sugar alchohols, especially early out, and some of those chewables have quite a lot!

I take Celebrate and their website doesnt list actual ingredients but I will check the bottle. Thanks for the tip.

If memory serves, I think you'll find that Sorbitol and Xylitol are the primary ingredients in those Celebrate chewables.

I have a local DS friend (not on OH) who had serious problems with chewable calcium early out due to the sugar alcohols giving her DHR. She ended up switching to Upcal D powder. Good luck!

Are there any other options besides a powder? I am going to stop the calcium for a few days and see if that helps.

I know there are Opurity chewables which have no sugar alcohol. If your surgeon clears you for swallowing pills at some point there are also Citrical petites.

You may also find that as your guts heal, your tolerance for sugar alcohols improves. I had some issues the first month and none since.

Did you ever figure this out? I am having somewhat the same problem. Diarrhea about 1-2 hours after I take my bariatric advantage vitamins. Just seeing if you have any suggestions.
