I am not certain I'm a DSer either. I want to be, but Kaiser doesn't offer it. I have to go through a challenge process to receive it. If the challenge process isn't successful the VSG will be my choice over the RNY.

If you're really interested in a DS, I'd advise you to really take some time out to fight and be patient.  It can take a while for success, and you may need more than one try to get it.  Everyone has a different health situation and the DS is a great surgery.  If you're sure that's what you want, don't "settle" for a VSG, because you won't be happy with it.

I agree but there is only one process available to me.
File a grievance (actually this isn't quite true as the director of health ed told me I should request the surgery I want from my PCP and see if the person in charge of surgery will approve it outright. THEN file a grievance if he doesn't.)
File an appeal.
File an IMR with the Department of Managed Health Care.

If I get denied the whole way, I'm left with the VSG since there is no way I can pay for or finance the surgery myself. Then if the VSG fails I can petition to revisal to DS... and if it doesn't... I'm a happy camper. So I figure it will all work out the way it is meant to in the end. KWIM? Still...it's a ridiculous cumbersome process. Grrr..

It IS ridiculous and cumbersome.  Trust me, I paid for my VSG out of pocket on a student's part-time salary, so I understand.  i'm thrilled with my surgery, and my improved health.  I hope you will be too very soon

It's one thing for you to post this on our forum.  It's quite another for so many of you to come over to our forum piling on.

I can't tell if you are bored with your life, or just so pius that you have to save us dumb arses from ourselves.

Either way, the thinley veiled holier-than-thou attitude was made clear.

Now those that "dared" her to post it over there, I hope you're proud of the wedges you helped drive between two groups that should be helping each other.

How childish this whole thing is.

How is posting a study childish?  Depends on how you receive and respond to the information that dictates a childish behavior.

I don't have a problem with anybody posting anything anywhere. all the surgery forums are public, not "ours" or "yours".

info is good & so is disagreement: people might learn something, so why not?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Facts?  Studies?

We don't need no steenkeeng facts and studies!

... having said that, I actually think a 63% success rate is a pretty good gamble for the VSG.  It's pretty decent for a restriction-only surgery.
