New Research!! VSG Failure Rate as high as 37%
I think the dare came after the fact that she was treated so badly for posting the information in the first place. Where ever that may be, what ever time that was, she was blasted for posting the information flat out... first time out... by people on OUR board. (Meaning OH as a whole).
As DSers (speaking totally from my perspective here) we get treated badly no matter where we go... unless we stay where we "belong" on the DS forum. And even then we have trolls come our way to start crap.
Do we think we are "better" than other people? I have never felt that way. I was a bandster, and was welcomed on the VSG forum when I wanted to get that surgery. The RNY forum when I was approved for that surgery revision and not the sleeve, and by the DSers when I was told about things they had seen and researched and got approval for the DS.
IF the DSers were not vocal and did not HELP me, then I wouldn't have the revision I have.
No one is better than anyone else here. YOU are not better than me. We all have a common bond and a common goal. We just have chosen different paths to reach the goal we have.
Now... if you can not handle the information you are presented and can not do your own follow up, then YOU are the one with the issues. Not the OP. You can peek thru the flowers to see the weeds, or you can CHOOSE another perspective.

As far as DS folks getting treated badly I agree that at times, VSG folks, myself included (I will use that group since I know most about them) do get "defensive" with DS folks. Speaking for myself that happens when
1) I see misconceptions and untruths about the sleeve posted on the DS and VSG board
2) When I get "slammed" (my perception) for attempting to correct them
3) When I get told my surgery is an inferior one and that I somehow was not "smart"enough to have gotten the DS
4) That I cannot/will not reach goal with my sleeve
5) That IF I do reach goal I will not maintain my weight loss
6) That my being able to have maintained my 135 lbs lost for the past 15 mos is an anomaly and should not be considered typical success for the sleeve
I sometimes forget "timing" in posts on message boards and that things are not occuring in real time and that can lead to misunderstandings as well.
My experience over the past 2 plus years is that some, not all, DS folks will continue to insist that
all surgeries are flawed in comparison to the DS
that VSG folks CANNOT succeed without dieting, counting calories, eating low fat forever
that VSG folks were not committed enough to their lifestyle to have gotten the DS
Please understand that while I know you are not saying ALL VSG folks treat DS folks badly I am not saying all DS folks treat VSG folks badly but it happens often enough that these kinds of posts occur with greater and greater frequency.
True enough that we are all battling the same "enemy" and that is obesity and not each other
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
For the life of me, I don't know why the VSG and DSers have such hostility. The VSG is half the DS. So technically we all have the sleeve. The DS is the reason we have the sleeve as a WLS to begin with. From my understanding they figured out that some people only needed the first half to be successful and that is why it is a stand alone procedure now.
But I DO know why the Rny and DS folks get mad at each other. But, we won't go there...

I think the bottom line is, what exactly is meant by the term, failure.
A lot of people have great success with this procedure, and do not suffer the slings and arrows of malabsorption, which can be considerable. (I write this as a committed and very successful roux en y patient).
If I thought I would have had a ghost of a chance by keeping my pyloric valve in place, and doing without malabsorption, I would definitely have gone for the VSG.

These are really appalling figures for developing nations. Although exercise is the best way to get rid of extra fat, I read somewhere http://www.samrx.com/blog/news/obesity-rate-on-the-rise-in-t he-developing-world-warns-oecd when medicines help to prevent weight gain.
