Protein smells

Any ideas of protein drinks that don't smell so bad?  I am really not getting enough calories, protein, or liquids in and feeling very weak today for it.  I've felt awesome up until this morning.  I know my body is in starvation mode or something as I have at most gotten 500 cal. per day in, AT MOST.

My issue with the protein drinks/mixes etc. is they smell so bad it makes me want to puke wicked bad!  The taste isn't all together horrible, just the smell is soooooo bad.  I've been drinking the pre-made carnation instant chocloate but it only has 13 g or protein and I know this is too little.

I've tried unjury chocolate and the chicken soup, but the smell was so bad I nearly passed out, not exaggerating.  I have a thing of unjury vanilla but am afraid to open it.

Any ideas?  Thanks :)

Recent post ops may be real sensitive to food or cooking odors.  I know I still have issues with the odor when someone cooks bacon in the house.  It's difficult to find a protein for some people.  I happened to find an unflavored whey isolate protein with no odor. I often speak to people at support groups who note this problem. I often open the top of the resealable protein bag and let these people smell the bag. The reply is, "I don't smell anything", which normally means the same with taste, no taste.  So this generic protein solves this issue for newer post ops. Mixing with SF puddings or other soft foods, or making your own shakes or fruit smoothies works for others too. This generic protein is noted on my profile page. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck. DAVE

I found the Nectar Sweets (chocolate or vanilla) to be good.  I have a strong reaction to the smell of protein powder as well so I understand.  Most of them smell like dirt to me.

And have you noticed that your sense of smell is MUCH stronger?  Odd huh?

I saw someone recommend using a sports drink bottle or sippy cup to keep your nose out of your shake while you drink it. I am keeping that info in mind if necessary.

I am also having problems with vitamin flavors.... but that is a whole other issue.  I am going to stop today and get a new bottle.

thanks for the ideas.  I'll try the sports botltle and the non-smelling one too.

Ugh, the vitamin flavors are so gross too!

I just am having lots of issues with smells now too; I feel like my daughter who has sensory processing disorder and has really aggressive (physical and emotional) reactions to smells and sounds, among other things.  It totally gives me a new perspective.

Oh I sooo feel your pain on this issue...I am 8 days out post op...I CANNOT stand or fathom another protein shake, nor can I spend one more penny on things I hate! I am VERY frustrated today. You're right, the taste isn't bad overall (except for the sickeningly sweet aftertaste that sweetners provide)...I wouldn't open that vanilla unjury if I were you...been there, done that...give it to someone you KNOW likes it. LOL...Plus, the vanilla (though it is one of my favorite scents and flavors) in all shake forms has gagged me. I can only drink chocolate anything. And not enough of it, apparently. I bought some unflavored protein powder at GNC yesterday. So far it is working well in soups, however it does thicken them a bit. I can't taste or smell it. But can't put it in soup only for the rest of my life. Tried the pudding trick yesterday...no go. I hate to be so bad attitude right now, but this is EXACTLY what I logged on here to post! I just need ideas...plus, I am supposed to be on this full liquid protein diet for another week before I see my surgeon for my follow up post op appointment. How the HECK??!! I really, really want to try eggs, but found out on here some people can't tolerate them. Buyer's Remorse? Not exactly with the results I am having weightloss wise, but I don't want to not be healthy either....
Have a great and positive day!

Try drinking from a cup with a lid.  You can't smell them nearly as well that way.

I use Isopure Zero Carb protein powder in the chocolate and cookies and cream flavors I find them not to be offensive. The cookies and cream flavor smells like the Yankee Candle "buttercream" scent.

.I also just ordered  the PURE unflavored whey protein isolate powder from BariatricEating.com. They swear there is no smell. I'll have to see when it arrives.  I was looking for a powder without artificial sweetners and this was the best fit.

Good luck in your search.

P.S.
You might also try the Ispure Zero Carb (ready to drink) in glass bottles. These are clear, fruit flavored and have 40 grams of protein each. They have a little artificial sweetener aftertaste but remind me of G2 gatorade. They also have a black tea with lemon flavor if you can have caffiene.

I bought the blender bottle @ GNC.  It's awesome.  Has a wisk ball in it (think of your metal wisk at home- just in a ball shape).  It has a screw on lid w/ a snap mouth spot so you don't smell the bad.

I must say The Syntrax Nectar Kiwi Strawberry about made me lose my lunch, but the Strawberry smoothie was decent.  If I could add some strawberries & blueberries to it, I'd be thrilled!
