bread and pasta after surgery...

I had RNY 7 months ago.  I dump on most processed carbs and most make my pouch hurt..  I no longer eat bread, rice or any kind of sweet anything.  I have had a tiny bit (like 1/8 cup) of pasta with sauce that I tolerated without major pain....but since I am into the whole no processed carb thing it seems easier just to avoid the pasta too!    I really don't miss any of it.

What do you eat? Just to have some ideas of good eating. I had my surgery 22 days ago.

I have cut all refined or processed carbs out of my diet.  I don't eat bread or pasta.  I do have some trouble eating it but could if I wanted to.  But I decided I needed to make some changes about my attitude toward food.  Do I love bread or pasta more than I would love to lose weight....NO!!!  Sure at first it was hard but after a while I didn't really miss it.  Now if someone is eating lasagna or something like that in front of me I don't even think twice about it.  I now get my carbs through high fiber items like fruits.  This is much healthier for you and more filling.

I eat bread and pasta without any problems. Whole grain bread or an english muffin with peanut butter is my go to pre/post work out snack. I can't eat a lot of pasta but when I do eat a small serving of pasta it doesn't cause me any discomfort.

I am almost 7 weeks post op and I have 1/2 an Whole Grain English Muffin w/ peanut butter for breaky.  That and 1 oz of cheese and I am comfortably full all morning and can skip a snack.  The whole breaky is 210 cal and 12.5 grams of protein.  I love it!

I am having RNY in a month or so. I'm not really worried about it. I just didn't want to try it if it was going to be a problem. I have never been a bread eater but I do like pasta occasionally. The only thing I was worried about was soda and I have already given it up. Haven't had one of theose in over 3 weeks. I thought I would miss it more than I do. I don't even think about it. I was supposed to lose 45 lbs by the 28th but I don't think I'm going to make it. I still have 29 lbs to go. I started out losing 10 lbs a week and have slowed down. I lost 3 lbs last week. It's hard to stick to this diet for this length of time. Please pray for me. I definitely need it.

I would think that the biggest problem with eating breads and pasta is that it fills you up without much nutritional value.  Once you have the surgery you will have to get as much nutrition in as you can before you fill up on the fillers to avoid malnutrition.  I have also heard that excess carbs will stretch your pouch over time but I haven't heard that from a doctor.  Best of luck to you

Pasta and rice give me a stomach ache, bready things I can do but not large amounts.  I can eat a bagel but usually leave a few bites.  White carbs are the enemy anyway.

I'm allowed to have both as long as it's whole wheat.  I can only tolerate 2 or 3 bites at the most of either one because it does literally make you feel full faster which is not good, you need to get that feeling from your protein not carbs.

I rarely eat that stuff anymore. That's what got me fat. Not eating it got me thin.
