How much small bowel is bypassed with RNY?
It's hard to tell for sure, but it sounds like he's describing the Roux limb, which is really not a bypass. It's still part of your Alimentary limb and food passes through it, but it would not have bile mixed in so you wouldn't absorb fats in that section of bowel. You would still absorb proteins and carbs, both simple and complex.
There sure is a lot of confusion about this. But then I was confused too, it took me some time to really understand how the DS is different and the differences between how RNY and DS work. I'm still not sure about how much is actually bypassed with RNY, but from the replies I've been getting it looks like it really varies much more than I thought it did.

Well Kelly, that's why I asked the question; I want to know how much is really bypassed.
Do you know if that is how much was actually bypassed and is the Biliary limb? I think many people confuse bypassed with how much is bypassed and how much doesn't have bile mixed in or is the Roux limb. What you're talking about; 100-150 cm looks like what would be the combination of bypass / Biliary limb and Roux limb. But I really don't know for sure and that is why I'm asking the question, I want to know what it really is.
Take a look at this drawing and you will see what I'm talking about:

I feel certain what my op report said was 100 cm was bypassed. But I'll be darned if I can find that stupid report right now when I want it. My New Year's resolution was to get more organized but it has not happened yet. I know where all my lab reports are and some other medical records, but there is a huge folder somewhere with all the records from the surgeon that did my RNY (who is no longer my surgeon) but it is not in the place it should be. If I find it, I'll post again with the exact wording.

You have to have a Biliary limb Pup, it's what carries your bile to your small intestine..
