My Dr. said it was fine, but I'd double check with yours just to be sure.
Have a wonderful trip,

I would forgo the scopolamine patch if you've never used it before, it can have some icky side effects. They gave me one for my surgery and it made me feel really dry and headachy and even normal lights hurt my eyes because it can make your eyes dilate.I would recommend Bonine over Dramamine any day, I feel like it makes you less sleepy and has less side effects. You can even ask your MD for prescription meclizine. That's what I used for my first cruise and I felt fine the whole trip.
Hi Jenny,
Here's an unsolicited suggestion if you don't mind: I just got back from a two week cruise. If you are planning to eat in the main dining room, you might want to take your main server aside and set some guidelines for them. You don't HAVE to tell them you've had surgery, but say something so that you are spared all the comments I put up with for the first few nights:
"Why aren't you eating, are you ok?" "You don't like the food?" "Please tell me what we can do differently for you?" "Are you sure I can't get you anything to drink" ETC, ETC! It got old really quickly! I took my server aside after the second night, told her I had been really overweight and was on a special eating plan, and I would appreciate her not feeling so concerned, I loved the food and her excellent service. That worked wonders, and things were fine the rest of the cruise. I even lost three lbs, believe it or not!
Have a great time!

Patch can be brutal as another poster mentioned. I did a routine where I'd take the dramamine at night (so the drowsiness would actually benefit me) and ginger tabs in the day. Ginger has been determined to be highly effective against nausea. We were on the heels of hurricane Igor and had very rough seas (some crew were sick) and we skated right through it no problems. We also wore the sea bands on our wrists. May have been psychosematic (sp?), but on two cruises we had no problems at all. I should note that was except when we forgot and left them off after a shower one evening and got to feeling sick. Suddenly we looked at our wrists and were like, "OMG--those little bands really work! This was the cruise we took before we found out about the ginger!
Good luck!! I love cruising!! Enjoy!

I recommend seabands. You can buy them at Walmart near the dramamine; are non-drowsey.
I used them on my recent trip and even when I took them off, if I started feeling queasy I put them back on and "bam" the nausea was gone.
