Russell Stover Sugar Free Candies?
1. "good for us" probably not, but acceptable, yes, much further out. Not now.
2. Start some benefiber in your liquid and take something your Dr recommends in a day or so if no results. Get your fluids in.
3. Emotional is normal.
4. Normal
5. When you go to pureed, follow your plan. I doubt cereal is on it but maybe. Look at what your dr wants you to be eating. For us it was creamed soups, yogurt, SF pudding.
6. Not for a while. I used PB2. Lower fat.
7. I still find hot drinks easier than cold drinks. Herbal teas get me through the day. The fluids will help with the constipation.
It keeps getting easier. Just follow your plan and you will do great.

1. What do you all think about Russell Stover Sugar Free candies? I havent eaten them considering Im only 5 days out, but I used to eat them and Im wondering if they are good for us Post Op? I have a bag of the pb cups at work for "chocolate emergencies" but TBH, looking at the nutritional facts it seemed like a lot of carbs and sugar alcohols just for one piece. I prefer the Hershey's SF dark chocolate and reeces mini cups.
2. Bowel Movement- I am 5 days out and havent had one since morning of surgery-bout an hour b4 surgery, is that Bad? Normal. You had major surgery and your bowels are in shock. They may take a bit to start moving normally again. OTher things that can contribute are being on narcotic pain meds (they slow you down), if you did a bowel prep prior to surgery (nothing in there to stool out) and being on a liquid diet (liquid in, liquid out, diarrhea is very common a few days after surgery).
3. Being Emotional right now, I woke up this afternoon crying my eyes out cause I am really hungry, everything I see has to do with food. And I dont know what to do. A lot of that is probably head hunger. It will get better. You probably won't have real, tummy rumbling hunger for at least a couple weeks if not longer. I remember thinking every commercial I saw was for food and it sucked, but it made me look forward to when I would be able to eat normal foods again and having the ability to make smarter choices.
4. Abdominal Swelling and itchyness-My stomach is still swollen and sort of "hard", and it is itchy. Is that because I am healing so its going to itch or no? Also normal. In laproscopic surgery they pump your abdomen full of gas so you've probably still got quite a bit in there plus the normal swelling. Walking is your best friend. I was itchy from the steri-strips and tape they used initially, but once those came off it was better until things really started to scab and heal, then it was itchy again.
5. Sugar free:Mousse, Pudding, Smucker jam, Oh and Baby Cereal?- What do you think of that for my Puree food Stage starting Tuesday? My NUT recommended staying away from SF puddings and such as much as possible since they have little nutritional benefit and a lot of sugar alcohols. For puree I at a lot of ricotta cheese with stuff mixed into it, refried beans, soup, tuna and egg salad.
6. Peanut Butter-are we allowed-If so which kind is the best for us. You can try, but some people have issues with it. I personally have not, and use creamy JIF. I like a Nutrigrain waffle with SF jam and PB on it once a week or so.
7. I been trying to get in all my water, but OMG it is hard. I try Ice tea, and broth as well but Broth is old and I cant do it. Jello doesnt sit with me at all...Any ideas? Instead of broth, try boullion cubes, I think they taste better for some reason. For liquids, I did a lot of raspberry ice and fruit punch Crystal Light, diet Snapple iced tea, and FUZE slenderize. I also like Vitamin Water Zero and the occassional Poweraid Zero, but sparigly because it has a ton of sodium in it.

1. What do you all think about Russell Stover Sugar Free candies?
They have a *lot* of sugar alcohols, some folks dump on them, some are fine, some folks have a heightened laxative affect because of RNY. If/when you start, go slowly and carefully. I am 9 or 10 weeks out and i haven't gone there. I feel like they will open a door to junk food and candy, and I'm not ready for that door to be open. Plus, they are very high in calories if not sugar, and I'm focusing those calories on healthy sustaining protein rich foods instead. Sort answer: be cautious and know yourself and what your body needs before you go there.
2. Bowel Movement- I am 5 days out and havent had one since morning of surgery-bout an hour b4 surgery, is that Bad?
It happens to a lot of folks. The peristaltic action of your intestines sometimes takes longer to get going and get you moving post-op. Up your fibre and water intake. If you go a day or two more, try milk of magnesia. If that doesn't work, call your surgeon's office.
3. Being Emotional right now, I woke up this afternoon crying my eyes out cause I am really hungry, everything I see has to do with food. And I dont know what to do.
Very normal. This is the time to start working on that head hunger. It's not real hunger,, because your nerves are cut and your ghrelin production is non-existant. Use a journal to work through it and learn from it... it can help you identify what triggers it, and help you find different ways of coping. Also, I'd recommend you read the book Women Food and God (is neither specific to women, nor has much to do with God) it has been a breakthrough book for many of us.
4. Abdominal Swelling and itchyness-My stomach is still swollen and sort of "hard", and it is itchy. Is that because I am healing so its going to itch or no?
Not sure about this... could be still related to anaesthesia and gas... are you able to pass gas? If not, you should talk to your surgeon's office.
5. Sugar free:Mousse, Pudding, Smucker jam, Oh and Baby Cereal?- What do you think of that for my Puree food Stage starting Tuesday?
Not very much actual nutrient in it, and very little protein. Not sure if you mean pureed or full fluids, or what is on your puree list, but on mine was things like pureed tuna and chicken, protein shakes, pureed veggies etc. Pureed stage shouldn't just be all about comfort foods. Stay away from the baby cereal, though you can use sugar free pureed foods like veggies and meats (but nothing with rice or pasta!) to make things easy on yourself.
6. Peanut Butter-are we allowed-If so which kind is the best for us.
Yes, allowed on many surgeon's plans but very high cal and lots of oil and sugar so tread lightly. Use all natural or at least sugar free varieties.
7. I been trying to get in all my water, but OMG it is hard. I try Ice tea, and broth as well but Broth is old and I cant do it. Jello doesnt sit with me at all...Any ideas?
Crystal light, Syntrax Nectar, herbal tea, sugar free popsicles.
