Stomach Ulcers
is it true they can be life threating for RNY'ers? I am just worried because the script the surgeon gave me is over $100 and I CAN NOT afford to pay for it and my insurance wont cover it, I dont know what to do now, I just wanna know will an ulcer if thats what it is go away on its own or can it cause me to get really sick and die like has anyone had to deal with an ulcer what happend to you and what was your experience?
Yes, ulcers can be dangerous. They can bleed and the erosion can eat through into your abdominal cavity. You need to call your surgeon and tell them you cannot afford the prescription they gave you. They may be able to put you on something generic that is less costly, or give you samples of medication or put you in contact with a manufacturer that offers some type of discount.
Also, you need to make sure you are not smoking, drinking alcohol, carbonated beverages or acidic foods that could make things worse. Also, no NSAIDS.
Ulcers can go away on their own but it usually takes a long time, depends where it is and other factors.
Do you know what caused your ulcer? Where is it?
