I had RNY on March 16...so I am not that far out.  I still am not ok'd to swallow meds unless they are crushed.  So my question is:  Can we take cold meds??  I have a suffy nose, sinus pressure, blah, blah, blah..all the usual sinus infections issues going around right now.  Dr. office is obviously closed today since it is Sunday, but I really want to take something.  Thanks guys ~~~~~Sarah

I had a bad cold last week, and the nurse at my surgeon's office told me we can take any kind of cold or allergy medicine as long as it doesn't have NSAIDS in it.  So, I took sudafed, claritin, tylenol and chloraseptic spray during the day, and benadryl at night.

Yup--sudafed is a really small pill as well I took tylenol cold and sinus (not that you can FIND it anymore!) with no issues--so sudafed, sudafed PE, clartin-D, zyrtec and the likes--all ok.

I think it is ok to take these things. Just read the lables first and make sure they follow your surgeons guidlines for what you can and can't take (NSAIDs). Also, if you are taking pills, read the lable and make sure it says its ok to cru**** won't say its ok to crush if you can cru**** but it will say do not crush or break in half if you can't. All capsuls can't me pulled apart and poured out.

Thanks girls....I think I may try the Sudafed tonight because they are so tiny.  Needing a good night sleep tonight and this may just help with the sinus pressure and what not that keeps me up :)  Have an awesome week ladies .

sudafed is likely to keep you up though!

I find that I can't tolerate ANY of the liquid cold meds

I think that cold medicine pills are just fine.

sudafed is one of my faves, but it is an upper, at least for me.

Thanks Lady for the input...I was worried about the liquid ones for sure!  I dont generally have the problem with meds acting like uppers for me..so I decided to go with the Sudafed.  Hoping my body is o.k. with it .
