Post RNYer's...question for you
I am just over 4 months post-op, so I am not a "veteran" yet. But, I am still never hungry, no desire to eat, and I never crave anything at all. I keep a food journal - both to make sure I get enough protein, and to remind myself to eat, because I tend to forget to eat if I get too busy. I have not changed my family's eating habits, they still have snacks and things in the house, and eat them in front of me, but it doesn't effect me one bit. The most important thing down the road is to stick to the program, and listen to your doctor. Stay away from bad carbs, and other things that might tempt you. One bite of something sweet could eventually turn in to a full candy bar in no time, especially if you are a stress or emotional eater. So, try to give yourself healthy alternatives for food and for activities to replace that desire to eat, and as long as you follow the program, you will do just fine.
The "head hunger" will leave you soon, mine lasted about 2 weeks post-op, but was much worse during the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Just remember, your body is going through a lot of changes right now, and you are adjusting to all those new changes both physically and emotionally. Try not to worry about what is to come in the future, and just focus on where you are and what you need to do today.
Best of luck to you on your journey. :)

I don't get hungry at 2 years out. I eat by the clock and in the evening if I need to get more calories in.( I aim for 1100). I don't eat refined carbs (no white flour, white sugar (more than 9 gm per serving), no white potatoes, white rice, pasta, junk food or fast food.)
My carbs come from veggies, fruit, whole grain and milk products. I aim for 100gm protein a day and 120+ 0z liquid.
That's what has worked for me.

I think everyone is different. I was hungry as soon as I came to after surgery!! I was more than a little pissed about that after hearing all the "sometimes I forget to eat" people say that I wouldn't. It wasnt head hunger either because I was nauseus. I had the same feeling pre op if I waited to long to eat. I felt like that until I could eat solid foods. Then I had to learn what my new "full" felt like. Sometimes I would practically feel the food up to my throat and my stomach would still have hunger pains. I had to stop and wait and then it would go away. Now that I am further out- I am also realizing if I over eat, I am hungry a lot sooner. Maybe I'm wierd:) Anyway, I hope yours stays gone, it will make losing and maintaining a lot easier! Good luck and happy losing!
I've been hungry sine a couple weeks out from surgery. It's different for everyone. You may or may not get the feeling back. I was hoping it'd stay away and was saddened when it hit with a vengence so quickly. I'm easily satisfied though which is helpful. Keeping foods that keep me full for a long time around is very important.
I am hoping the hunger stays away. I do know when I need to eat. I can tell it's time to eat but the feeling doesn't control me any more. Used to be I couldn't go somewhere if I knew I wouldn't be able to eat for a few hours. Just couldn't do it. Now it's not even an issue for me.
I also think that avoiding refined carbs helps me not feel hungry.

Hunger returned for me at about 8 months out. I have been at home following surgery a month ago and I want to eat ALL THE TIME. It seems like I am not hungry until I eat.....then I get hungry after eating. I watch everything though especially since I have been unable to exercise for the past several weeks.
Hopefully when I return to work and exercise the hunger factor will be much less bothersome. Right now it's a real problem. And yes, I was one of those people who had to force themselves to eat. So much for that.
