So in Feb I was diagnosed with an ulcer in the seam of my pouch. I hade my RNY in Nov. So 6 weeks later dr sends to for an endoscopy, and when I come too they ask me how am I feeling/ and asked to sit up. OMG the pain was horrible, I felt like someone was trying to pull my arms and head off all at the same time. The Dr. then proceeded to tell me that when he gets the scope in and they pump air so that they can see what is what he sasy he sees somethng he should not see My Liver and My bowels. Seems my ulcer got bigger ate thru my pouch wasattcking my liver and bowels. The ulcer had aslo eroced 2 staples and was letting things leak into my stomach. So I was told that I had to have surgery immediately. I am like WTH? I came in feeling wonderful I have not had no problems, and then all of a sudden surgery to repair an ulcer.
My WLS surgeon told me that he was prob goning to havr to reverse my rny if he could not rapair the ouch and it leave enough to survive on. well seems I wake up with staples from my breast bome to about 2 inches above my pubic. I aslo have a very large umbilical hernia that was removed, but they was able to repair my pouch , it is smaller now and he said prob down the road yr from now I wll prob handle bout 1 cup food max.
Sorry so long but I am wanting to know anyone else experience anyhing similair?

How the ulcer was discovered. For a week i was nauseated and vomiting, even just my saliva was casuing me to vomit and not just little foamy spit ups. i mean from my toes vomit.(sry so graphic). I called my surgeon he prescribed me zofran and after 3 days the pain started right under my breast bone, like someone stabbing me. My husband took me to LMC ER and bc I am a GBP patient they took extra steps took back immediately , cat scan  to see if I had bowel blackage and then they did the Endo and that is where they saw the ulcer. I was sent home after 4 days in hospital with TPN infusions, which is Iv with nutrition, bc I was unable to really eat , which also casue me to gain 25 pounds.
But this last time I had been feeling great no porbs, I even had went the week before to applebees with my hubby and had 3 shrimp and a few pieces of spinach leaves from his salad. it was so good.  So this came to me as a total shock.
Of all the things I hae gone thru and prob still to go thru I still have no regrets.  I have lost 80 pounds fo far and I feel the difference, more energy. Now just have to get thru this hurdle and my Faith in Jesus will help me thru this.
Dr. Strictland and all the Dr's at riverside or great and very caring and do what ever it takes to help yhou out. I have never had any probs with calling and not getting an answer.

Hello, i am almost 4 weeks out and i have been not able to take any vitamins, nexium , anything b/c of the horrible nausea. I was getting dehydrated and finally my surgeon did an endoscopy on me yesterday and i have a ulcer starting in the beginning of my intestine from my new pouch! Sounds like what you are dealing with. The thing is they gave me more nexiium and a medication to take to coat my stomach. The thing is I STILL CAN'T STAND THE TASTE OF THE NEXIUM  even if it is in food or drink! I hope i don't get to the point where you are at. Keep me posted and take care.

The taste of things change, sometimes even water makes me gag. I am taking protonics, carafate, for the ulcer, caafae is like chalky peptobismo, but I take it to help. When I first had this surgery dr wanted me on Nexium but insurance would not pay for it so I did not get it.... very expensive. Dr said the nexium could of helped prevented the ulcer. Just take waht the doctor says and follow the diet plan,,, I know I am 4 mo out and having to start all over again with the liquids.

I'm sorry to hear about everything you have gone through.  I wish you well!!!
This might be a stupid question.  Did your surgeon do an endoscopy on you before your RNY surgery?  Could you have had the ulcer before RNY surgery.

I know my surgeon preforms an endoscopy 2 weeks before surgery to make sure you do not have an ulcer.

yes I had endo before surgery, esp since I had the hpylori bacteria a year ago he wanted to make sure it was gone before he did surgery. I got a green light on the endo that everything was ok.
I have a whole new compassion for people who suffers from ulcrs... I never realized that they could be so bad and deadly.
