Is it still worth it all???? yes/no why???
it is a mixed bag, you often trade one set of problems for new ones. At 8 years out I have almost alwyas been food, vitamin etc compliant. The exercise comes and goes and I have had some regain in the last 2 years (but spent 6 mos in a non weight bearing leg cast...my excuse). I still look much better and move more easily. Yes the world is much nicer to thinner people.
I have had several serious, life threatenings complications and surgeries in the last few years, (No serious ones other than dumping, gall bladder removal, loose skin etc during the first 5-6 years.) I really worry that folks who weigh in the low 200s are having this surgery......an awful lot of risk for that amount of potential loss. Still a reasonable surgical alternative for the super obese.

I can add the following to the list:
No more diabetes - Worth it!
No more high cholesterol - Worth it!
Depression gone - Worth it!
High blood pressure gone - Worth it!
No more CPAP/sleep apnea - Worth it!
More self confidence - Worth it!
Feel like life is worth living again - Worth it!!
Feeling like a "normal" person - Worth it!!

Everyone isn't having problems. In fact, MOST people do not have problems. These forums can be somewhat like town hall meetings - most people who constantly come do so to voice complaints.
As far as it being worth dealing with changes, side effects and problems, I guess that would depend on whether or not you were in the minority that did have major problems. For me, the answer is a resounding YES IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT!
I no longer sleep w/ a CPAP machine. I was able to go off all my meds. I can walk/play/run now anytime I want. RNY was literally added YEARS to my life and LIFE to my years.
So yes... added years of life and added life to years is DEFINATELY worth it to me. I've had no complications - but even if I had, they would have to be extremely severe and ongoing for me to change that answer. (There was a girl in our support group a year or so ago that did have post-op complications. Even she said it was worth it all. But again... I'm sure you'll find someone that says it isn't worth it.)
Good luck!
