Gall Bladder questions--NEED HELP
I understand about the insurance. On meds, I believe I read they can give you meds to dissolve it, but it can take a year or longer on meds to do that. Since i know there are moving stones in mine, I'm pretty sure the doc will say to take it out. If they get lodged in the bile duct, then it is worse.
My appointment is too on Friday the 8th but in the morning. Mine is to discuss on surgery and when.
I like you, suspected it to be gallstones back when I started having pain, and I was right. I am sure you are also right too.
I did blood work to rule out liver problems and those tests came out fine so they sent me to the ultrasound where indeed there those stones sat - I even seen them on the ultrasound...pretty neat to see your inners...LOL!!
Good luck and keep us posted!!!!! I'd love to keep contact with you!

I was also working with a deadline, I was going to be traveling so my RNY surgeon fit me in. I have BCBS and it was covered at that hospital, 2 hours away. The surgeon's office will know how to handle it. She fit me in so I could have 4 weeks of recovery time before flying and heading out of the country.
THe surgery itself was a piece of cake. I have no problems because of it. We have to eat a low fat diet anyway. I didn't hae to adjust my eating habits in any way, shape or form. I was 3 months post op.
Of course, it doesn't hurt to over exagerate a little. If they find gallstones, it is not emergent - but it can be done in a timely manner. Mine was an add on and it happened to be the busiest surgical day the hospital had seen. I was expecting to go in by 3 p.m., made it to the hospital about 6:45 and surgery didn't take place until 10:00 p.m. I ended up in my hotel room across the street after enough recovery time to be out of anesthesia. Much more comfortable than on a gurney in the PACU.
Good luck.

Thanks! I know about "exagerating a little" believe me. The worst thing is for it to start giving me trouble AFTER July 1st. Our insurance is going up for state workers in NC come this July so it will be costing me MORE. SO I'm definitely motivated to remove it if there is one small thought that it might get worse as time goes on. It makes sense that it would. So hopefully I too can get worked in before the end of June and have it done. Surely that's possible. Guess that's why I'm trying to get in on Friday to see the Dr and get the ball rolling. I really don't WANT surgery but I also don't want to end up 5-10 months down the road still dealing with the gall bladder wishing I would have gotten it taken out before June 30th.
Thanks for your advice. Very helpful!

Yeah, surgery is no fun. The gallbladder is a useless organ. It helps regulate the bile to process the fat. If you're not eating fat, it shouldn't be an issue.
If this is indeed the issue, you will feel so much better after the fact. I realized after the surgery that I have had issues for years. The surgery is so much easier than the RNY.
Depending on what time your appointment is, call ahead to see if they can do an ultrasound the same day - there is an 8 hour fast with nothing by mouth. That could move things along for you.

I would have it removed. I had some time to wait it out and it only got worse, to the point of crying. He said it was very sluggy and needed to come out. A couple weeks later, I had some pain and I thought oh no, what have I done? but in the end I felt one hundred percent better and I have never had problems since. I have BCBS also and I didn't want to mess around with them soI just went on in and got it over with. I hate being put under so I was reluctant, but I'm glad it is behind me. It was a really easy surgery to boot so all is good. Hope the WL is going well. I lost 106lbs. in 8 months so I went on to lose another 10-12 lbs after the GB surgery. I ended up getting really sick, but not from all of this per say. I spent two weeks in Africa and just the changes in my eating habits, etc. done me in. I got a water bourne disease and I thought I was gonna seriously die, but I figure it was a bad one with or without the WLS and GB surgery anyway. Keep us informed! Prayers it will go good for ya!
