Hi!  I currently have the lapband but am in the process of getting the RNY done.  I am 50 years young and this is the year my PCP will want me to go for my first colonscopy.  Here is my question..........after you have the RNY can they still do a colonoscopy on you??   I sincerely would like to know............should I have it done before the RNY surgery.........help, please!!  -Holly

Hi-not sure of the answer and is a good question..I had the lap band removed due to adhesion's and looks like by the insurance paper I received today I am ok for the RNY..I don't have a date yet but imagine should be soon..I am 56 and looking soo forward to this surgery!

Do you have a date?  I'm looking for a decent picture to use..I have all the preop stuff done including the long and double talking tongue twisting psyche eval that keeps asking same question just in a different format..

No date yet!!  I was just approved through Tricare Prime to have the consult visit.  The doctor in Tamp said I haveto attend a 2 hour seminr...manditory before the office schedules a consult.  So I am just at the beginning stages. Looking forward to gtting the process started.  My PCP that was the first hoop, got the consult approval.  So here we go............

I can't believe it but I have approval..I had voice mail from the office and they closed early today so will call back Monday..

I attended the 2 hr seminar as well and then the nutrition class that was 2 hrs...Next I believe it will be the preop classes re exercise etc..

All I can think of now is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let nothing happen to prevent the surgery.  ..Then I have to present all this to my job..They are against anyone having wt. loss surgery feeling wt. loss should be by controlling ones food..Plus they don't want to have anyone out of office for very long, all understandable yet I am thinking of my health.

Colonoscopy is still possible (and recommended)  They use a camera, so they know the limits of the bowel.

Exam is a snap, but the prep is awful.  Try to schedule it on a Monday so you can use the weekend to prepare.  When the instructions say stay near the bathroom, they mean it. seriously.

Thank you for the info.  I go for my first seminar on Apr. 28.........manditory before you schedule an apt with the surgeon.  I am definately making a list of my questions.  Thank you for responding!!  I appreciate your insight and info!!  -Holly

RNY on 08/19/04 with
Colonoscopy only involves the large intestine.  RNY only involves the stomach and small intestine.  So, no problem.

I had my colonoscopy 3 months after my surgery and everything was fine - but the prep was a killer!!!  I have to have one repeated again in June, but now I won't dread it - honeslty, nothing to it - I even watched it on the monitor.

I have a new philosophy, I'm only going to dread one day at a time.  Charlie Brown
