Yesterday I was scoped and dilated after dealing with the stricture for 2 weeks.  The doctor said that the hole was the size of a tip of a ball point pen.  Now it is the size of a nickel.  I woke up while they were scoping.  My throat hurts but my chest muscles and pouch are really sore.  Has anyone ever been super sore after being dilated?

I never had a stricture. did he give you pain meds? You might call his office to see what he can do for you.

Sorry you are having a poor time of it.

After I had mine done my neck and shoulders hurt so bad I couldn't move my neck.  I called my doc and she said I was fighting back so they had to hold me down pretty hard.  So apparently that is what caused it.  I took the rest of my pain meds from my surgery for a couple days.

I am going to be no help at all, but what are you talking about?  I am having my surgery in May/June and I don't even know what you're talking about, please tell me!

Thanks,
Jen

A stricture is something that happens occasionally after RNY surgery.  Basically, the stoma between your pouch and intestines "overheals" and begins to close or at least narrows.  It can (obviously) cause lots of difficulty with eating or drinking anything, since food/drinks have serious trouble moving down out of your pouch.  They do a dilation to gently stretch the stoma open again.  Some need to have it done more than once.  But the majority of us don't have a problem with strictures at all.
